Puppy food/Adult food and what brand is good???

I read the post about puppy food and what time is a good time to switch....dutchess is coming up on 18 weeks and I still have her on puppy- should I switch? and I feed the costcos kirkland signature puppy food mixed with black golds premium puppy food.... it works good for the shihtzus I breed but Im wondering is it effective with Dutch?

I know alot of you guys have alot of knowledge on the different brands, can i get some opinions???

what do you guys feed???

Yes .. switch her to the adult food

Try the Kirkland.  My only concern is the recall of the Diamond Manfactured foods and Kirkland brand is one of those they manufacture in their plant.

I feed raw.  The last kibble I fed was over 2 years ago and it was grain free "Now" .

what do you mean raw?

what kind of raw food?

I checked the bags of food that I have now and they are not within the time frame or area im from, so I was safe with that. and it was mostly a recall because humans handling the food were getting salmonella. Im from N Idaho- close to spokane so I wasnt in the region they were recalling.

But I know from talking alot with the person I got her from that she obviously has different needs than my Shihtzus do- and I want to make sure that I give her the best possible. We all know that good bullies arent cheap and cheap bullies arent good....with that being said- I want to make sure that she has the best of everything.

The hard question!!!

when I got my pup he was on nutro....but His poop smelled soooo bad..So I went to Petco and decided to try a natural food..I put him on Natural Balance and it had good reviews but man did my baby get the runs..Then I switched to a grain free chicken one called Natures Natural and it was a chicken one and boy he still had the runs!!! I then asked around and was told about Taste of The WILD and I started him on it 4 days ago and his poop is perfect and he isnt biting his feet..It's affordable, grain free, and it seems to have good reviews..He is on the puppy bieson with roasted venison, and he has a happy belly so I refuse to switch to the adult for a least a month or so..I'm really happy with it..If you check their website you can find a retailer in ur area.. good luck!!!

Raw Meat - Are you in Coeur D'Alene?

I don't feed whole bones that are not ground...but they get raw organic, grass fed meat.  So I won't just throw them a chicken back and let them crunch on it, the bone thing still worries me.  But they do get raw meaty bones like beef marrow bones to chew on, I have 40 lbs of Vension 3-4" bones coming next week along with 30 lbs of Elk.  Here's whats in my freezer right now ~  Venison, Tripe and Organ mix, Organ blend (heart, liver) Duck, Giunea Hen, Lamb, Bison, Beef, Turkey, Sardines, and they get Eggs, some pulped veges, Salmon Oil, joint supplements.  I have a freezer full of the dogs food.

On the menu tonight is Lamb w/Tripe Organ blend.

I love dog food shopping...LOL! I belong to a co-op so we have access to a lot of great meats at an affordable cost.  This order that is coming is something like 8,000 lbs, so the benefit is buying in bulk.

Some of the companies we order from are Columbia River, Hare Today, Natural Pet Pantry, Plymouth Poultry, Neman Ranch, Zewe Peak, K9 Natural, Bravo, Primal, Green Tripe, Honest Kitchen. We have a lady that raises rabbits organically for those that feed whole rabbit.   You can google all these.

What I like is knowing what I'm feeding.  It isn't dead animals, cooked ground, strained and put back into kibble. Loosing any nutrients along the way which have to be added back with stuff you can't pronounce. Yucky!  If you read the inspection report about Diamonds manufacturing plant you might think twice.  They use ingredients not listed on their ingredient list and it is dead animals (ie cats, dogs, rendered animals).  Diamond also killed hundreds of dog with their melamine problem several years ago.  I honestly don't know why some of these companies still use them to manufacture their foods.  Like Taste of the Wild which is a good food, although it did not work for me.  Ester ended up with a horrible staph infection after feeding that food for a month. A food change and $500 vet bill later she was all good. It was in the middle of show season and her hair started falling out. Not good :( .  So 2 Convenia shots at $200 a piece she was all fixed up.

People got Samonella from the dog food just by touching it and not washing their hands.  I would never think I could get that from cooked dog food. But is it really ok because no dogs got sick?    How do we know dogs didn't get sick?

When I was feeding kibble I specifically picked "Now" because it is made in their own manufacturing company,  family owned business and they specifically state on their bag that they don't use rendered meats.

Either way I'm a big advocate of raw feeding now and will never go back to kibble.  My dogs coats are gorgeous, I don't have allergy issues, theres no foot licking, no itching, etc.  The only thing I do have is Kohl has some tear stains that seem to be better now that I'm feeding less beef.

close to Spokane

You're not far from me.  I am in Yakima, we had planned on taking a trip there, but I think we have waited too long, it might be too hot for Kippah for a couple months (well not today----as it practically looks like Seattle!)  Did your get your bully in Spokane?

Barf Diet/RAW

I have been feeding my dogs RAW since I got them.  I got PJ at 6 months old and he went straight to RAW.  My Miss Sohphia, I got her when she was 7 weeks old.  PJ is her father.  She has been on RAW since she was 4 weeks old.  It has worked out really good for me and them.  No health issues "thank GOD" and they have very good coats.
