prolapsed urethra

Remy has been aggressively humping Oliver for weeks now and I've just been waiting for my summer student loan money to come to get all three of the neutered in July. Well, on Saturday, Remy started bleeding (just droplets) from his little boy part and it hasn't gotten any better. I've talked to my other bully friends and experts and they all agree that it's probaby a prolapsed urethra which can happen when a dog gets aggressive with his humping. Remy has an appointment tomorrow morning to get his boy parts removed and hoping that will solve the problem. My vet doesn't recommend getting surgery for the prolapse as she says it's not very effective and it can reoccur again and again.

Wish us (him) luck tomorrow!!!

Good luck!

Winston had his second prolapse a couple weeks ago (his first was the reason he ended up in rescue).  It was surgically corrected at the time of his neuter by the fine folks at rescue.  My vet said since he's fixed, and the surgery has been done once already there isn't much more he can do.  He told us that we need to keep Winston away from unaltered females (all our friends have their dogs fixed, but you never know who you might encounter who is not fixed).

They do a non-surgical procedure using Iodine to "cauterize" the prolapse.  If the problem reoccurs after Remy is neutered, or doesn't go away let me know and I'll be more than happy to explain what my vet did.  It's non-invasive, doesn't require anesthesia and usually has a 24 hour turn around time (to stop bleeding and get things functioning normally again).  It's worth knowing about if this happens again.
