Pregnant

My girl is in her sixth week of pregnancy.  She is quite active and is always jumping on and off the couch.  What are your thoughts on limiting her from doing this?

Thanks

Re: pregnant

I've always heard that you should keep them quiet for the first 2 weeks after breeding so the eggs can attach to the uterine wall and not be dislodged. Keep them exercised by walking throughout the pregnancy and limit vigorous activity, especially towards the time pups are due.

That said - One of my girls was kept in the kitchen so she wouldn't be her normal overactive self. If put into a crate, she would grab the wires with her jaws and pull/shake. She didn't like being cooped up and would hurl herself at the door, bounce off and repete.  She had 5 healthy pups.

Many of my pregnant girls enjoy walks into our woods and want to go almost up to the time pups are due.

The same here...I tried to keep her crated knowing she loves to play hard and jump up on the couch but she also would chew the bars and bark for what seemed like hours so gave up.  Guess I just have to leave it in God's hand"s for the most part.

Couch

I think if they are able to jump on and off and have always done this then ok.  I let Ester jump on and off on her own until it was difficult for her...but she pretty much let me know when she needed help.  Once she wasn't able to get up on her own, then I didn't let her jump off herself.  She is not loose during the day to jump on an off the couch when I'm not there.  She had 7 very healthy puppies.
