We know prednisone is not the best for bullies but my dermotologist just put my male bully on it because Maximus is always chewing on his paws in the evenings and sometimes all night long.
So he gave him a 10 day prescription.
What are your opinions regarding Prednisone??
Good or Bad???
Thanks
Gizmo's lost bladder control -
Gizmo was on it for about 5 days, and she started to lose bladder control, we took her off of it, and in about 2 days there was no further issues.

the problem is
your not solving the problem....pred will stop the itching but it only covers up on why is he itching...long term use can casue kidney damage... and other health problems...
so instead of covering up the problem...you need to do some detective work...is it a contact allergy something on the grass...could it be the laundry detergent your using.....any new cleaning chemicals in the house...when did this start...is it a food allergy? does he need raw diet or grain free.....most vets just throw dogs on pred to keep the owners quiet.....
so start looking...pred is not going to your answer its just the vets lazy answer....
Our Vet put her on Pred while a wound healed
The Vet didnt want Gizmo scratching at a wound while it healed.. that was the reason for the Pred in our case, but I understand finding the problem, not just treating the symptom. Hell my (human) Docs only wanna throw meds at me anymore :/

Prednisone should not be used with a wound
in fact, it increases the risk of infection, inhibits the natural immune system.
Surprised your vet prescribed it.

Prednisone
We have had to use it on during bad allergy times. It seems to be the only thing that really works. We have tried it all, allergy test, allergy shots, benadryl, claratine, etc... We only use it when he really needs it, which right now for him until first snow is bad. He obviously does drink a lot, pee more often, and pant more.
