2 weeks ago i had my Bella spayed. 1 week ago she started discharging sticky blood and clear mucus. And 3 days ago she developed a large lump under her surgury site. I took her in and they drained it but it came back. Can anyone help me with this? Iam worried sick. This can't be normal, can it?
i wish.
I wish i could help but my sister in law is going through the same thing with her bully right now. Sounds like exactly the same thing except it started only a few days after the surgery not a week.
It could be a stump abscess
If so it can be very serious. It sounds like a second surgery needs to be performed to remove the lump. This can also affect her kidneys and she will need blood tests to check her kidney functions.
Do you trust your Vet 100%? Because if you don't, you need to find another one fast.
Not Normal
Cleo's incision on her spay opened up after several days and I had to take her back in and have a couple of staples put in. They put her on antibiotics and set a couple of staples. I did warm epsom salt compresses on the incision 2 x daily for a week and she healed up fine after that. BUT she didn't have a lump. That would definitely concern me. I believe I read her incision opened...did they resuture it closed too much and it is infected and now it can't drain?
I have no experience with what Jacinda mentioned in her post.
Definitely needs vet consultation.
Morgan had it after her spay
Fortunately we were able to treat it with ab's but she almost needed a second surgery. I didn't feel any lumps but she had a discharge.
Morgan has been my project, lol. The poor girl has had so many issues but she has a great spirit.
One Answer
My sister in law has discovered that Fergie has had an allergic reaction to the sutures. There is no internal bleeding, and the infection is localized to where the sutures are being pushed out of the skin. She doesn't really look that bad and is in an OK mood, but there is a pinkish discharge and swelling.
TOOK BELLA IN AGAIN TODAY.
TOOK BELLA IN AGAIN TODAY. THE LUMP UNDER HER SCAR IS A FLUID LUMP, DRAINED AGAIN AND A BAND TO KEEP IT TIGHT. AS FOR HER DISCHARGE, FOR SURE AN INFECTION. SO IN 10 DAYS SHE SHOULD BE AS GOOD AS NEW. THANKS EVERY ONE FOR REPLYING.
Thanks for the update
Good thing you brought her in! Poor baby :(

What kind of band?
Did they wrap something like an elastic bandage around her? I would think that would be uncomfortable and not very helpful. I would think that only sugery or a drain tube would keep the lump from filling up again. If she isn't much better in 2-3 days, I would take her back to the Vet.
Does she have a temp? Did the Vet give her anything for the pain?
