I took this photo and hope someone can give me some information. Our little guy was rubbing his face on a rug this morning and now I notice what looks like cherry eye???? First bulldog so I depend on the internet and this board for help. I did call the vet and they said to bring him in tomorrow and they will look at it. IF this is cherry eye, what are we looking at for treatment? Little guy was just neutered last week and I'm afraid of another surgery so quickly. I am hoping I caught this at the very early stages if that helps.
Looks like cherry eye to me
Onslow never had it, but from what I have read, sometimes they can simply be massaged back in. If the massaging doesn't work sometimes they will tack it.
Looks like it to me.
Maude had one when she was about six months old. We were able to massage it back in but it kept popping out. Rather than tacking, our vet snipped it. The benefit of snipping is that no anesthesia is required and it will not reoccur. However, your dog runs the risk of dry eye and needing eyedrops for the rest of his life. With tacking, your bullie is under anesthesia and it is possible that the cherry eye could pop again.
Maude was fine after the snipping and did not develop dry eye.
If you do a search on here, I know you'll find lots of info and experience with cherry eye.
Good luck with your guy.

although it is not really red right now, it could easily get redder. Kippah had this at 6-7 months old and we tried to massage it back in. We were successful a couple times, but not the last one. We took her in for a consult and the doctor did it right then. She was sedated, in and out of the vets in about 2 hours, and sleepy for a few hours after than. Little bit of tearing on her face when we picked her up, and that was that. <<--- that did not look right Tears and in tear drops, not tear as in torn LOL.
This was a removal, we decided against the tacking because of the anesthesia and the possibility of it not working. They can get dry eye, but so can bullies without the procedure.
The vet said it was very common for 6-9 month olds because they play so stinkin hard...and that fit her to a T.

Yes it is
although it is pretty small and you may be able to massage it back in. I would first try getting it massaged back in, then determine if there are any allergy issues or blocked tear ducts before having surgery. Sometimes there is a mild infection in the eye that has caused some swelling and with eye ointment it will go down. If nothing works and it continues to pop out then you'll have to have it taken care of. I would personally have it snipped then tacked. My understanding is the possibility of dry eye is the same for an older dog that has not had cherry eye.
We put an ointment in Riley's
We put an ointment in Riley's eye and it goes right back in.
