In the middle of the night my 8 yr old male bulldog Samson had a strange episode, I’m not sure exactly what it was, maybe a seizure, sleep apnea, or lack of oxygen. He was moving from side to side, with his arms straight forward and it seemed like he was gasping for air for about 2-3 mins. His eyes looked in shock and I can tell he was scared, he even wet the bed. I was terrified and wasn’t sure what to do. It really freaked me out because this never happened before. As soon as it stopped, he tried getting up, but he was struggling. It took him about 2 or 3 tries for him to finally stabilize his legs and walk. He was panting and felt very warm, kinda like he ran for miles. I gave him water, he drank it but it seemed like he was afraid to go back to sleep. We stood up all night, he seemed fine. He was constantly licking my face and wagging his tail, even wanting to play. He finally went back to sleep 3 hours later. Now, he seems like his normal self, kinda like nothing ever happened. Has anyone experienced this before? I’m totally confused and worried. Please help.
Narrow Trachea
Have you had his trachea x-rayed? My daughters bully was panicked and couldn't catch her breath and died. They said she had a narrow trachea and it closed up....Very scary..Hope it doesn't happen again. I'm no vet but it wouldn't hurt in time to check it out.

You might want to call your vet to ask him
what this might be. Since he is ok now you might not have to take him in. The vet might just be able to tell you over the phone what he thinks this could be.
I'm glad he is feeling better.

I agree
I would have to have a thorough check for peace of mind. That sounds soooo scary! But I'm so glad to hear he is acting ok now.
i would get him checked....
just to be safe..it does sound more like he was able to inhale...i might ask for a chest x ray....i would also give him a benadryl tonight before bed...does he wear a collar all the time? if he does take it off at nite...
good luck and let us know what happens....
Thanks all!
Thanks for all your feedback. No collar, he refuses. He acts like its the end of the world when he has anything on. He did have a benedryl the same night. I think a chest x-ray is the smart thing to do, and provide peace of mind as well. Thanks again and God bless to all!
Please let us know what you
Please let us know what you find out. I hope all is fine.
kibby freaks me out in the middle of the night too...
sometimes it sounds like she is gagging, or having some kind of crazy dream! i am always worried that she choking on her own phlegm while she is sleeping and is struggling to wake up.. so i wake her up whenever i hear it now, and massage her throat just in case there is something stuck in there! I will sometimes bring her a bowl of water in bed too, so she can clear her throat before she goes back to sleep. i think its a combination of the narrow airway, phlegm, her drying out her throat by snoring like a horse and having dry tongue when sleepin with a tippy out! I figure its like humans , when we sleep with our mouths open and wake up feeling all dry and yucky! good luck, I hope its nothin serious.. :)
