Please help - bulldog won't eat (cross post)

My very good friends bulldog, Abbey is having issues.  I am hoping someone here can give her some good advice.

Here is the situation in her words.

Abbey is a 6.5 year old O.E.B, normal levels (if not high) of energy, play. usually a good appetite for her own food/treats. We lost our other dog back in November and at that time I noticed a decrease in Abbey's energy, play and overall happiness.

I took her for more walks and we did more stuff together. She would go a few days and skip breakfast but would eat at night. She started to not eat at all until I put parmesan cheese on her food (we did this to get the other dog to eat towards the end) when that stopped working I put in broth. She would only fall for these tricks once or twice and has now stopped eating her dog food.

She has been on the same food since she was born and we never had a problem with it. She wont even eat the neighbor's dog food. All she wants is what I am eating and her dog treats. She doesnt eat as fast as she did and isnt' drinking as much water as she did.

We took her to the vets, they did xrays and everything looked good, but she had gas in her small intestines and her stomach showed some irritation. We were sent home with Probiotic pills to see if she can't regulate the bacteria; IF that is the problem. She wont eat still. Day # two now. Vet told me no people food or treats. What are we missing? What now?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  This is my friends "baby" and she is very worried.  Thanks you guys!

*Important addition to the above*

The vet just called her with blood results:

slight enemia
liver enzymes elevated
blood proteins slightly low

she needs an ultrasound. Looking for liver disease and bowl disease.

Has anyone experienced this?

Poor Thing

Maybe it is time to try some wet food like Merrick.  Even my picky Cleo liked Merrick canned.

I hope she isn't really sick ... but just lonesome.  Maybe they need to adopt a friend.

I was hoping you'd weigh in

thanks Deb.  I think she is sick.  the bloodwork came back just now:

slight enemia
liver enzymes elevated
blood proteins slightly low

she needs an ultrasound. Looking for liver disease and bowel disease.  Ever heard of this?.

Genral Forum

I posted more thoughts on the other forum.  :(

What a worry!

Actually, Kofi also lost interest in her kibble quite suddenly. She'd been on Wellness and always loved to eat. The experience I had with her sounds very much like Abbey.

I hope it is not a physical problem, but that she just got bored with her food. I agree that a diet change may be in order. I started Kofi on raw, but that's not an option for everyone.

Hope she gets her love of eating back soon.
