I had pet insurance years ago when Zimmer was a puppy. VPI, they paid VERY little ($10 towards shots & vet visits) and also there is a lot they will not cover when it comes to bulldogs (inherrent of the breed is what they told me). My advice is save your money in a separate account for vet bills. Insurance NEVER gives you back what you pay. Some have told me they will cover cancer, if the dog is hit by a car, etc. Just my opinon, not worth it.

We have pet insurance through AKC... it's about $75/month and covers 80% - 100% of visits and meds... the only things it doesn't cover are baths, nail trims, boarding, etc. $75 per month may seem like a lot but when you have a bulldog with all the problems/issues they have (skin, breathing, etc) it helps for sure! It has been well worth it for us!!

Used to have AKC but they excluded ALL genetic/hereditary conditions. Trupanion does not exclude anything except hip displasia, and you CAN add hip dispalsia coverage if the dog is still a puppy.
You can also set your deductible which controls the cost of the policy.
Audrey is healthy so far, no issues, for us the policy is for accident coverage. I like knowing that if she does have an accident I don't have to worry about how I will pay for it- I can take it out of my savings or even put it an a credit card and get nearly all of it back. The one time she did need to go the the ER, it cost more than the years' policy- the possibility of a huge bill scares me!

is one that friends of ours use and are very pleased with the coverage and ease of getting paid for the claims.
