a person was looing for a vegan diet for dogs......

i use this diet when a rescue first comes to me.....it cleans out the system..of toxic elements ....

this diet can be maintained for life...if you have a dog horribly suffering from allergies and raw has not helped....this diet is great for ibs...

2 cups  soy beans..brown rice..celery and carrots ...with one tablespoon of soy oil    (((((please note reg soy beans can be substituted with pre cooked soy flakes)))))))

soak beans over night....in am pour off old water add in fresh enough to cover benas......boil till tender,,,,,,, cook rice (pre instructions......and NOT instant))))    mix rice, beans  and vegetables

together......add teaspoon of garlic powder......bake as a loaf for one hr at 350 degress,,,,  i feed twice a day .....

this is a super hypoallgenic diet.....   i make it once a month...and my guys love it........

Hi Judy....

This sounds like something I may want to try. Do you just make white rice, nothing in it right? Has this helped with your bullie's allergies (itching, licking, yeast infections?) Do you substittue this for kibble?

OOps..you said brown rice!

Sorry, I didn't see that.

Is garlic good for bullies? ...

I had thought it wasn't.

yes use brown rice.....

so you know white rice is a processed rice...instant rice has also been processed....it takes a little longer to cook but its much more healthy....garlic is not the big danger you read about i give about 1/2 teaspoon thats fresh garlic to my dogs to control fleas and ticks...i use no pesticides on my dogs.....

this diet is great.....its low expense and healthy.....but remember you have to check all your treats e i would make your own....bake some chicken....or liver...remove all possible allergy triggers....

with this diet i ahve seen a real detox and some times the dog will look worse for a week and then bang on a healthy road....

any questions pop a note

By healthy road do you mean.....

no more itching and licking and yeast infection? I can't stand Bear chewing on himself.

Sorry I have alot of questions but....

Do you give the 1/2 teaspoon fresh garlic everyday or just once a month instead of a topical like Frontline?

BY following this diet, will he get worse first like you said and if so how? I really want to relieve his allergies.

By following this diet, because its soft food, is this good for his teeth?

Do you feed 1 cup twice a day? That is what I am feeding now with NB Duck & POtato, although vet says he is 10# overweight and wants me to cut back.

I am really anxious to try this. Anything to help him.

Thank You!

ok to answer some questions

have you tried a raw or semi raw diet???  i am a raw feeder...i use lamb rib bones uncooked to keep my dogs teeth clean....i also give big knuckle bones or their better know as soup bones.....

i would rather see you lightly boil some chicken or steam some chicken.....add in some liver.... and try this to see how  your dog does first.....all treats have to be removed no kibble no biscuits ect.....

i feed 1 1/2 lbs of food a day....... so you want 80% meat 10% organ 10% bone (bone is NEVER cooked bone)

think about this first...their are alot of raw feeders here that will tell you how going to a raw or semi raw diet has helped their dog become healthier.....

ask all the questions you want........as many times as you want.....raw feeding is fun and exciting....and you cant go wrong.....

The vegan diet you spoke of above....

Can I feed that alone without meat? The soybeans will serve as the protein source right? How much of this do I feed? I don't want to feed raw per say, but his vegan recipe seems healthy.

What about the garlic, can I use this to replace using Frontline? Will it work the same?

about replacing frontline

I just recently made the decision to not use ANY poisonous chemicals on or in my dog anymore. So no more Frontline. Well my dogs got fleas and I used diatomaceous earth and it killed them all. YAY! There is a thread below about diatomaceous earth. I also got some essential oils and made a spray to repel them, and I will spary their bedding and them before they go out.

I tell you though I was skeptical, and I HATE fleas. I had my frontline ready in case the fleas got worse, but that de worked immediately! I am still very impressed by it.

The garlic takes a while to work, it's not an instant thing, (Thanks Judy and Julia for the info!) so you need to feed it daily and not just once a month.

And I would strongly encourage you to reconsider the raw feeding. It has made night and day differences in my dogs. No more smelly face, no more scratching all over everything, no more paw licking, no more ear infections, no more vomiting undigested food, beautiful shiny SOFT coat, happy energetic dogs, old gal is actually going up and down stairs on a DAILY basis now! It is SO worth trying!

yes old gal Bridget is doing awesome!

unfortunately her sister Princess crossed the bridge about 8 weeks ago, while my daughter was still in the hospital with the new baby. :-(

Bridget's back legs were very weak, her muscles were deteriorating. She had a heartworm treatment when she was 11 and it gave her neurological problems. (the reason I am so afraid of heartworms) She dragged her back leg really bad, it eventually got MUCH better but it will never be 100%. She had a lot of problems with steps and NEVER went upstairs in the house anymore. I was really worried about switching her to raw at nearly 13 years old, but she did great!  Incredibly her back legs started getting stronger, she regained some muscle and recently started going upstairs every day! She hasn't fallen down the steps either. She misses her sister terribly  and cries a lot now but her physical improvement is just remarkable. She never had any skin issues or ear infections but her coat does look healthier. The other big benefit to raw is that it doesn't take much food to keep them healthy. Bridget is one of the skinny old lady dogs, and she was getting downright bony. She is a VERY picky eater and I find that even the small amounts of raw she eats is enough to put some meat on her and she doesn't look so bony anymore.

I will never ever feed my dogs kibble again!

And I am glad you got some good info out of the sites! Don't you just love Wolf Creek Ranch?

yes you can

this diet is for severe allergies and for many dogs that cannot handle any type of meats.....i would start with a cup in the am and one in the pm....if still hungery or losing to much weight in crease...no more than 4 cups a day.....

you need to start your diet....before deciding to stop any topical applications....it takes about 3 months for garlic to be effective in repelling fleas and ticks.....their are some natural flea and tick repellents you can use...

but as with any diet get rid of all his grain treats...you will need to come up all natural treats....
