Hi All,
So Spanky had surgery today and they gave him Rimadyl for the pain. I did some research on the drug and it doesn't look to be so safe. I was wondering if anyone has an alternate suggestion I could ask the vet for tom? My poor guy is whining I feel so bad :( Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Liz
We use Tramadol...
very few side effects. Rimadyl has been okay for all our guys except one, he started vomiting while on it and we had to stop giving it to him. There are some bad reactions, but most dogs do fine on Rimadyl, especially for the short term. I wouldn't hesitate to give him one tonight if he's hurting.
Rimadyl
All meds have somekind of side effects. I have used Rimadyl for for years on all of my dogs with no adverse reactions. I wouldn't hesitate to use it. If having to use it long term then that could be a different situation. Long term use requires blood tests to make sure it is not causing any damage long term.
I always have a bottle of Rimadyl on hand just in case.
What surgery was done?
Perhaps there is a reason for the rimadyl vs another painkiller. It does have antiflammatory in it, so maybe that is why. Mr. Higgins has been on it many times, no issues. There is no reason any animal should be in pain, so I would contact the clinic if I were you.
Hope to hear better news soon,
Deborah and Mr. Higgins
I use Rimadyl as well.
I have a Doberman girl on it weekly for pain...she is quite old now and it keeps her very comfortable. All meds have something they CAN do to a dog, not all meds DO that though:-)

I gave Sally Remadyl after
Both eye surgeries and had no problems with it. Easy to give cause the chewable is tasty and seemed to relieve the pain.
