Opinions please...

Hi everyone...we have been having issues with watery eyes and tear stains for weeks...Gemma is 8 months. After a trip to the vet we were told she has inverted eyelashes. At first I thought it was just one eye but now I think it is both. We live outside the USA, so i'd like to know how risky this surgery is and what the cost usually is in the USA. Also, is it ok to so this surgery at the same time as we get her spayed? Thanks for the help!

Our boy had entropian years ago...

his surgery went very well and he never had another problem with it.  I don't see why they couldn't do both procedures at the same time, they will probably want you to use an Ecollar so that he can't scratch or irritate the eyes.   I think our price was in the $600 range, but Scottsdale Az prices are always high.

Thanks, that is good to hear.

Thanks, that is good to hear. I thought rather than put her under twice i'd just get it all done at once. It will be around $300 for us, also 2 nights at the vet. Hope that is the cause of the problem!!

Different Procedures

depending on if she has Distichia or Entropian.  With Distichia (eyelashes grow inward or on the inside of the eye lid) is usually corrected with laser, zapping each eye lash. You will have after care of eye ointment and there will be some eye watering and scabbing as she heals. This may have to be done more then once depending on the number of lashes.  With entropian (the eyelid rolls inward causing the hair to rub the eye) this is more like a facelift where an incision is done on the outside of the eyelid and a small amount of skin taken out, then sutured. This can be done on both lower and upper lids depending on the severity of the entropian and the heaviness of her wrinkles. With either procedure she should wear an E-Collar until healed so she doesn't rub the eye causing an infection or pulled sutures.  Either procedure can typically be done with a spay.
