On our last ditch effort to give (friends dog) Abbey an appetite. I'm hoping this will help her. We put some on her gums last night and she ate a little steak and mashed potato. Holding out hope.

I usually use this for tiny pups to give them energy to be able to nurse if they are weak, or for their mom if she hasn't eatten. Also for an energy boost to a dog that is too stressed to eat. You can certainly try it for a sick dog too.
Another idea is if I have a dog that is sick and won't eat I give some of the canned AD food. It is very moist and contains enough liquid so they can get by without additional water and is very tasty. Its texture is made so it will easliy slide down their throat, or thin it with Pedilyte and deliver it via syringe into their mouth. Or you could try giving the dog some Ensure milkshake, use a syringe if she doesn't want to take it on her own. Tilt her head back a bit and slowly squeeze it into the side of her mouth and let it run down her throat.
Dehydration is a big enemy of a dog that won't eat, more so than the lack of food.

And then it turned out it wasn't? Have they determined WHAT is wrong with her?
Nutri-Cal is good...I use it on incoming rescues that are in any stage of emaciation. It helps them a lot in getting the nutrition they need without making them sick. Keep using it if possible. Ensure is also a good choice for liquid help. You can mix it into a soft food and give it by syringe if necessary.

Yes, this is the same girly. They tried to do a liver biopsy and her blood wont clot anymore. My friend doesn't want her poked and prodded anymore so they are just trying to keep her comfy and eating. She is not doing well. =(

I tried to bring Sarge along for an extra couple day....I waited too long and he passed away at home...it wasn't pretty, nor comfortable for him. Only saying that to say I hope they don't delay too long with her. What a sad, sad thing.
So, did they ever get a diagnosis? I hate when any animal is in pain and we have no idea the cause. Such a hard thing for them I'm sure. I will be praying for them Lisa.

the two things they suspected, the course of treatment is steroids - so she just opted to put Abbey on steroids but no we don't know exactly what it is.

we used NutriCal and it did help. We would also try to vary his food, he would usually eat baby food meat, chicken or veal sticks no matter how bad he was feeling.

Please tell Jes and Kevin that they are in my prayers. I really do believe that there is no better way to leave this earth than by being held by someone who loves you.

Thank you Robin. She is drinking fine
they have her on pred for now.
Is this the girl that was initially diagnosed with Lymphoma?
And then it turned out it wasn't? Have they determined WHAT is wrong with her?
