Nursing mom's blood I think in one teat
Submitted by carries332000 on September 14, 2011 - 12:10amI wonder if anyone can help, I am taking mom to vet in the morning because I have just noticed that one of her teats seems to have blood coming from only one of the holes in that one teat. You know how one teat can have several holes that milk comes out of? Well white milk is coming out but just in one of the little holes seems to be dark brown stuff coming out? I think my 3 week old babies may have nursed on that one before I noticed this. About 2 weeks ago this one nipple/teat had mastitus and I took her to the vet had put hot compressess and milked it all out and looked good. Now 2 weeks later I notice this dark brown stuff coming out of that same nipple. there is also good milk coming from that same teat but just one of the pin holes in that teat is dark brown too dark to be blood, when you put it on paper towel it is brown not blood. Anyone know what this could be and now I am scared that the babies who are 3 weeks old today could have nursed on that nipple before I realized this was coming out of it. Please let me know if anyone knows what this could be. I am taking her to the vet in the morning first thing but if you have had this experience please let me know as it is really worrying me. Thanks for any information you can give.

but I'd not let the pups nurse on that teat. Might be a good idea to hand milk that teat and see if it clears out?
Did the Vet put her on antibiotics for the mastitis? She may need another course of them?

yes, she has actually been on atibiotics for about a month or month and a half Clavimox because of an inverted tail she has that was infected. Much better now. I will be taking her and the pups to the vet on Friday, my vet is not there on Wed. and I have a doctors appointment on Thurs. but yes not letting them nurse on that nipple.
