hello everyone i got my first bulldog BRUTUS nine months ago i've read the books and this is my first bulldog forum i joined(which is i great site by the way) and i'm doing all the right things but he started to get the red tear stains just like the pic in the most recent red tear stain post. i already stopped the tap water and im giving him bottled water. The breader feed him purina pro- plan natural lamb and rice puppy formula so ive been feeding him the same everything has been fine until the last two weeks when the stains started to show up and i've noticed that he does 'nt eat his food like he used to he picks through it and some times just walks away from it, is this him telling me he dosen't like this food anymore? im just wondering what would be the best dog food that everyone has had good luck with that i could try with him and hopefully with the new h20 and a new food he will clear up the stains and start to eat his food like he used to. thanks for the help and again GREAT FORUM everyone
Brutus....
He's old enough to be on adult formula food. Sometimes people have luck curing tear stains when switching foods. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as switching to a particular food/brand because what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. Pro Plan is a good food....I've used it for years and years through tears stains and no tear stains and tear stains again. You might want to try a different protein source when you switch to adult formula and see if that helps. If you want to try the Angels Eyes powder, the best price can be found on Amazon.com Or you can be diligent about cleaning and drying the area and applying Desitin frequently. Good luck.
Our boy Newman had horrible red stains when we got him...
we switched him to Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream which is salmon and sweet potato and within two weeks they were completely gone. It is a grain free food and I've found that feeding grain free is better for them overall anyway.
thanks for the info i more thing
thank you everyone for the info i went out and got TOTW pacific stream and im gonna start to cycle it in to his food 1/8 cup a day for 10 days but just wondering if some someone can tell me some signs that the food is not agreeing with him or that he is alergic to it besides the obvious ones. thanks again i ll keep everyone up dated on how is doing.
Salmon....
We feed our bullies a diet of sweet potato and salmon and we have no stains.
