I saw that North Davidson Vet in Lexington is listed on the new Vet list. Has anyone taken their Bullie there? If so, which Doctor did you see.
I took out rescue Bullie Mix the end of last year the day after she picked her up. She was 11 mos old and we got all the normal items done- Shots, fecal check and I good look over. She had red raw place on the face and discharge coming from her eyes, mostly in the morning, I told the vet, and were easy to turn red. .
We were given antibiotic- Keflex- for a red raw hairless place on her face and drops for her eyes. The raw place did not get any better and the redness did not either, however the discharge did get clear up. The 2nd trip to the Vet we received more antibiotic again and an ointment for the eyes.
Still no help. Long story Short- after visiting a 3rd vet the red raw place was diagnosed as Red Mange and her eyes had been turning red because she has a minor case of Entropion on both of her bottom eyelids. The Red Mange cleared up after 4 mos and I was told that the Entropion is looking better.
hmmmm sorry but entropian does not get
better.....entropian is when the lower eye lid turns in and rubs against the eye...can cause an ulcer....their is no medication for it only surgery to remove the excessive amout of skin thats turned in....i dont know what red mange is...and i need to look it up....
so i would be watching the entropian closely to be sure its not casuing an ulcer
my bully`s entropion has always been mild
He has never needed surgery as it did not worsen. Just ointment daily (Lacrilube)
so the lower lids rub against the eye?
entropian mostly has to fixed as their is a constant rubbing against the eye...i would not want to live with that....but i do know a couple of bulldogs with such health issues surgery is not a option....but if i had a healthy dog i would fix it...just me
Different Vets and Eye specialists
will rate the severity of entropian differently. Many many bulldogs have mild entropian that can be managed without surgery. For instance MacKenzie has according to my vet a mild case of entropian, he is not bothered by hair rubbing on his eyes but his lids do roll slightly.
1. ENTROPION, which is a rolling-in of the eyelid. This causes the hair on the surface of the eyelid to rub on the eyeball, which is both painful and often causes corneal ulcers or erosions. The corneal damage can also result in corneal scarring, which can interfere with vision. Usually the dog will squint and tear excessively. However, many flat-faced dogs with medial entropion (involving the inside corner of the eyes) show no obvious signs of discomfort.

Can also be upper lid
not always lower lid. Depends on how over done the head is.
VET on New List
My post really was meant for - Why is North Davidson Vet in Lexington NC on the new list and has anyone else been there?
My Bullie's issues were misdiagnosed on both her skin and eye issues over 2.5 mos. and given meds she didn't even need.
Also - just a funny- there is a sign in the office that says "If you have an Appt and have waited for more than 1 hr, please see the Receptionist"
For the vet to be on the list they would have had to be...
recommended by someone who uses that clinic or a particular vet.
