New Skin Issue??? Hot Spots ????

Wednesday I was rubbing down Bailey's back came across a dry patch feeling thing - of course I started checking it out and picking at it -  it was more of a scab then dry-

Ok here's another that I found today. It's was worse before her bath - flaky, scab and a bump like puppy acne.

The first pic was before her bath the 2nd was after.  They do look bigger in these pic and they are

Hmmmm

Hot spots are usually bigger, icky and oozy.  Not sure what that is, could be anything from an allergic reaction to a staph infection.  I would use some peroxide on it and maybe dust it with gold bond powder and if it doesn't go away, have it looked at.

May be just a bug bite

Any other areas like this? Does the hair pull out easily around it?  If there are more similar patches then it could be staph.  Make sure there are no fleas.

Just posted something else

Just posted something else but to your questions -  no fleas, just those 2 places and the hair only pulled out when I picked the scab thing off (the first one).

Around the big one (2nd pic) there was only dandruff stuff and and the hair is all there except on the pimple/bump looking thing.

On my dog it kinda look like a blister it would also scab it

was fixed by giving him allergy meds.  Just 10 mg a day and it disappeared. maybe that's it?????

Staph

often will get a little scab on it.  The only way to tell for sure is to go to the vet and they should scrap it an look at it under the microscope to determine if it is staph and what antibiotic is best to treat it.

My vet doesn't like Cephalexin he prefers Simplicef.  In his opinion Cephalexin needs to be given 3x daily for results and most people only give it 2x daily which isn't effective, which is why you often have to do more then 1 round.  Simplicef is expensive but only has to be given 1x daily and with your schedule may be the best for you.  Talk to your vet.

The first pic- the small

The first pic- the small round one- it looked like a small tick bite but no tick however it was a dry scab before a picked it off.

The second one was flaky like dandruff and had that bump on it like what she gets on her chin some times.

We washed her in Oatmeal/Aloe shampoo and it looked much better. I know that her skin is dry right now because when I was deshedding her I could see flakes coming up. Also, this was probably the longest she has went between "real" baths - like 2 months and we could feel the oil on her, it was also the longest between wipe downs maybe 2 1/2 weeks or so.   I do wipe her wrinkles and lady part every 2 - 3 days.  I've been traveling back and fourth (5 hrs round trip) being gone 2 -3 days a week to take care of my dad that has cancer, so I haven't been on top of things like a should.

I want to bring her with me but I'm afraid she's get sick down there - it's buggy, hotter than here (was 110-115 heat index yesterday), they have barn with alot of rabbits with hay and right now one is inside because it had some wolves (sp), nasty things where a fly lays an egg and then the lava borrows itself in the rabbit. Bailey does like small animals so she would be trying to kill it.

Staph - I'm going to have to look into that - I know nothing about it as it relates to dog -  I know in people it a really bad thing

One other thing-  with in a week we switched her over to Blue Wilderness Healthy weight Grain Free  she has now been on just it for 4 days.

Staph...

Looks like staph to me. Two of mine with allergy problems get this often. Don't worry though, a round of Cephalexin (antibiotic) usually clears it right up.

Skin

Sorry for the late response, I travel between my house and my parents to care for my Dad that has cancer - they leave 2.5 hrs away from me.   I checked her Tuesday night - the place with the bump - I barly feel it and it took me forever to find it because she kept turning over for me to rub her belly LOL.  The area is not red or flakly and the bump is 1/2 the size and pink fleshy colored.  The smaller spot is just white - not red dot.  When I get home tonight I'm going to check her again.  I wonder if it's because I switched her over from Natural Balance Grain Free to Blue Wilderness Healthy Weight (Grain Free).  I'm thinking I need to switch her back to her orginial - Taste of the Wild.   I switched her over to BW Healthy weight because it has more fiber and she needs it for poop issues.

Now another thing that changed recently was that she went longer between bathes like 1.5 mo rather that just 1 month because of my traveling and she coat felt oily.

Good Grief

Oh My!!!!   I looked up that Shampoo and saw very good reviews.  Today I found another scab on top of her head and when I was combing she had flakes coming up.  I think that she may have had a reaction to the food I switched her too  Blue Buffalo Wilderness Grain Free Chicken Healthy weight-  I took it back today and got Taste of the Wild Venison and Buffalo.  She's ate that many time with no problems.  I'll going to look into that shampoo you spoke about along with Vetericyn (for the sores)
