new litter

new litter of 4 - all are doing great, just a few questions

1.  anything I can give mom for pain?

2.  am having to "top"of the babies after nursing - abuot how much should they take?  all weigh around 12 ounces.  i'm thinking 4-5 mls, is this right?

3.  best bottle nipples that have worked well for others

4. best temperature to keep the "puppy box" - have a heat lamp over 1/2 the rubbermaid and averaging 76-80 degrees.....this OK?

thanks for any advice!

Is mom indicating that she's in pain?  Mine usually don't appear to have anything other than a little tenderness.  I try to keep the pups from nuzzing too much around the incision, but don't give any pain meds.  Medication will travel through the milk to the babies, so I try not to give anything that could cause respiratory depression (like most pain meds can)

I don't have a specific amount to top off with...the babies will stop sucking when they're full.  You have no way of knowing how much they got from mom, so trying to force a specific amount could overfill, especially if you're tubing them...they could aspirate if you put in too much.

Playtex nursers with the old fashioned brown nipples

I answered this one on the general forum... :-)
