Both of my boys were neutered after a year and MacKenzie was 2 years. If you aren't planning on showing him, then go ahead and have him neutered. Besure to have pre-blood work done to make sure he is a good candidate for surgery.

Tucker was neutered at 7 months. We were told to have it done sooner than later. The only thing that's funny is he squats when he pees, doesn't raise his leg at all. I was told that he still does that because he was neutered so young. All the research I did said to do it at 6 months but he had some tummy issues then so we had to wait a month. I know that isn't an option for you because I think you said your dog is older. For Tucker there were no issues with the surgery. He was back to his normal self after about 4 hrs and we've never had any behavioural issues with him. Good luck!

has nothing to do with neutering or when they were neutered, IMO. MacKenzie rarely lifts his leg, except if he's trying to be manly, when he's on walks, but at home he always squates. He was neutered around 2 yrs.
Norbert was also a squatter and he was neutered around 1 yr.
Kohl has always lifted his leg and rarely squats. He'll be 2 soon and intact.
It is very common for a bulldog to squat, I think it has to do more with ease of peeing. They tend to fall over if they lift their leg :)

The squatting due to neutering comment didn't come from a professional. Another bully owner just said that to me and i've never seen another bully except for male puppies squat. Like I said I just heard it from someone and I know it was just someones idea and not necessarily the case.
It's not at all a big deal or anything. I just think it's kind of funny. Someone thought he was female because they saw him squat. I could care less just as long as he goes! I think that would be pretty funny if he fell over when trying to lift his leg :)

concern is more for owners. There is a greater level of responsibility if you have a dog that is intact. Let's face gates get left opne, kids let the dog out...yadayadayada. so why not be safe at least with the reproducing issue.
Also many boarding facilities will not take intact dogs as well as day cares. License fees are less if you spay/neuter. If you take your dog to a dog park you are less likely to have problems with other dogs if your dog is not intact.
So for any average owner I recommend neutering and spaying.
For me personally I wouldn't unless I have an intact bitch and dog together, because life is hell when the bitch is in season or if there are behavioral issues.
Right now Kohl is intact and he is great, until Ester comes into season. Then they both annoy the heck out of me. Soon one of theM is getting a procedure done.
Mr. Higgins is neutered and always lifts his leg. He has no patella on one side and he doesn`t care. He was neutered at 6 months. He is a bit of a humper too (naughty boy). My last bully was neutered at 14 months and never lifted his leg or ever humped anything. I actually think this is strange.

Neutering....
I don't believe in neutering unless there is a health or behaviorial problem. Here is a link to some interesting information: http://www.caninesports.com/SpayNeuter.html
