We had a situation with our Bulldog, Matilda, tonight and we'd like to see if any of you have any idea what might be going on. First a little history. Matilda is a little over 8 years old and maybe a few pounds over her ideal weight. She does not leave the confines of our home/car/camper except to relieve herself or go from one place of abode to another and/or a short walk. She is never left alone outside.
Twice now she has displayed extremely unusual behavior, the first time a couple of evenings ago and the second time a couple of hours ago. Tonight she was lying on her pad on the floor when she suddenly came to her feet and began barking and howling (she has never howled before these two times), she ran around the room and tried to climb up on the furniture and our bed. She ran around the room as if looking for some hidden foe, continuously barking. She would stop occasionally and begin to howl, then revert back to barking and darting back and forth around the room again. She was not the least bit aggressive towards us, but we were quite concerned about getting near her mouth, considering the power in those jaws and her extreme behavior. It took a good fifteen or twenty minutes for her to calm down. The episode two nights ago was somewhat similar but did not last as long and I do not believe was quite as intense.
Any thoughts on what might be going on with our girl?

Re:
My suggestion is to get her an appointment with a Vet to see if she has any medical condition that might be the cause of her change in behavior. Sometimes a tumor can cause bizarre behavior.
That is my suggestion as well.
A good Bully vet with neurologic experience would be my choice, but I think she needs to see a vet.

No more epsoides last night
No more epsoides last night and will be calling the our Bully Vet Monday morning, unforturnaly for us, we are out of town, visitng our grandaughter. I'm worrying that our vet (Dr.Bailey in Deland, Fl.) is going to say either come home or go to the nearest Dr. there. We are in Andalusia AL. (sigh) any one know of a good bully Dr. around Andalusia? We are about two hours from Dothan, Montgomery or Penscola. Thank you for your responses. Also, I noticed this morning her ear is very warm and red. Could she have an ear infection. She has never had ear trouble before, always nice, dry and clean and now both her ears looks a bit greasy.

Yea, could be an ear infection - cant scratch it.. soo...
If you think about it, if your ear itched and you couldnt scratch it too well, it might drive you a bit bonkers too. I do not know of any Bully Docs down that way. However.. .If you are looking for Playmates in Deland Florida, my buddy and his wife raise little puppies, the cute cuddlely little itty bitty CANE CORSO MASTIFF little puppy types, and they too live in Deland, matter of fact Maria shows the Cane's too! LOL Good luck w/ your baby, and keep us updated please !

That's all I need
a Mastiff running in a frenzy, I'd have a heart attack. Yep, had to check out Cane Corsa Mastiff. Itty bitty, I don't think so, but beautiful pups! I have my hands full with my 55 pound bullie, who is now resting comfortable, though her romp around the house in a frenzy has left her sore and lame. I am still waiting to talk with the Vet. in the morning and have spent a good part of this day, feeding her ice cubes and just staying close. I have put some ear ointment in her ears and had her in her crate most of the day and she has been calm since this morning. Hope the night is quiet.

The first thing I thought of after reading your post was...
an ear problem. I would think that could cause the craziness you described. Hope you find a vet and find out what's wrong.
every once in awhile my hannah will chase around that house
for two or three minutes and i think its just her way of letting out some energy....i know its weird ...i can hear her running around the house uppstairs and on the beds then comes back downstairs and acts totally normal...she has injured herself and so i can't wait till she starts doing that again..:) i hope that is all your dealing with :)
Zoomies
That's what we call what you have described. Matilda use to do that alot when she was younger. Update: Matilda has an ear infection. Thank goodness we found the cause of her hysterics. She is much more confortable now, on her second day of ear drops and antibotic.

Thankyou team players. Reading your response had me smiling and I needed a light hearted response, to help with the worry. :)
P.S. I should of known it was an ear infection. When my boys were growing up they were prone to ear infections and they, too, would howl at the moon!
