George our
10yr 9mth old bully, was diagnosed with oral mycosis fungoides (cutaneous
T-cell lymphoma) almost 21 months ago after we noticed a red area on his bottom
gum. The vet gave him 3 months max. at
the time but another vet has managed to remove some tumours from his lips as
the cancer has progressed and he’s still here. However, the cancer is now well
advanced and his mouth looks a mess with further surgery not an option.
The vets
assures us that this type of cancer is normally pain free but just looks awful (big
red lumps etc) and as George doesn’t use a mirror, his appearance won’t shock
him as much as it does humans. I.e. he remains ignorant of his plight and that’s
the main thing.
He eats
like a horse and continues to be his happy self, so the vets say it’s just a
sad waiting game for some suffering to trigger the end via the big needle. One possibility is that painful ulcers will
appear.
Just wonder if others have any experience of this and how it ended for them. Lily our other younger bully, suddenly died of heart failure a few months ago. We thought she was going to be of solace after George but one should never presume anything as far as life goes of course! George’s grieving after Lily died was distressing to witness and difficult to manage, but we got him through it. Which in turn helped us.
I'm sorry
I will keep your boy in my prayers. It's an awful tragedy when we lose one of our babies.

that is so sad. I am sorry.
