My Emma has been having a HUGE problem with phlegm...advice please...

My Emma has been coughing up a lot of phlegm lately. Sometimes just outta no where she will throw up a few kernels of dog food with it. She has a terrible time where it seemed she cant get any air, someone has told me they call it reverse sneezing, seems anything but sneezing, its just like she cant get air.. a couple months ago she was choking on phlegm so bad that she fell over, couldnt breath and her gums were white, luckily she did it in front of me and I immediately stuck my hand in her mouth and was able to clear it.  I have switched her dog food from Blue Buffalo Weight Control to the Blue Buffalo Duck and Sweet Potato, not sure if this would cause more phlegm or not could tht be possible?    I have read on one of the Bulldog sites in the past that a squirt of lemon juice helps.. I have tried that but didnt know how big of squirt and she seemed to mostly gag when I did it (probably from the sourness)..  any advice or suggestions would be very helpful for me.

Have you had her vet checked?

It could be allergies causing the phlegm buildup.  You can substitute Sprite for the lemon juice, not quite as harsh going down the throat.  Maybe try some benedryl to dry her up a little?

I am having this same problem as well. I took Fatboy into the

vet and explained the symptons.  The vet listened to his chest and said it was allergies.   This does NOT seem like allergies to me.  He's got some serious phlegmy sounds going on and it's causing him to have trouble breathing sometimes.  The vet said to give benedryl but that did nothing.  Lemon doesn't work either except make him run away from me.  I thought I read somewhere that bullies can be given mucinex but I wasn't sure how much and if it was a reliable source (the info).

I'm at a loss.  I feel really bad because sometimes I can feel his "pain".
