My Bulldog weight loss
Submitted by Kosmo on July 31, 2012 - 2:03pmHello, I am trying to see if anyone has any ideas relative to my dogs weight loss.
He is a wonderful 5 yr old male that has been regurgitating his food for the past 4 months. Weight was 62 lbs now 48 lbs.
He is regular at all his potty needs…great appetite, playful, just a good dog.
Several visits to two Vets (with a team of tests and products) have left me with no answers and thousands out of pocket.
Blood work is good, palette is fine, pyloric muscle is fine, stomach looks flaccid? All ultrasounds and x-rays came back normal.
The only negative item found was 1cm. stone in his bladder. (which we have waited to try fixing his main problem)
When he vomits its several days of food, yet he poops normal etc.
He is on ZD dry food as prescribed, but is still the same. I have also cooked for him his meals for over a month, but he still can’t keep down more than two days.
Longest he has gone with out an incident is 6 days.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas???

Try feeding him a better food, that prescription food is not good (vets suck at giving nutritional information, they aren't trained nutritionists). Find a different food that is similar and see about getting him on a grain free diet, such as Taste of the Wild or Natural balance). Try feeding smaller servings in several small meals a day rather than just two regular meals. Give an antacid, it could just be too much acid is building up and not allowing the food to get broken down properly. Do you give any type of probiotic? Try giving one tablespoon of plain, fat free yogurt twice daily, or smaller teaspoon size dollops with each small meal more frequently during the day.
I hope you find resolve. Sounds like a digestion issue for sure, just not sure what KIND of digestion issue.

Have the vets suggested giving him an anti-emetic?
Our boy Oscar took Cerenia when he has chemo and it really helped with his vomiting. It's definitely a problem that he's losing weight, he's obviously not getting the nutrition he needs. I believe Reglan is also for controlling vomiting.
