my baby has a bad heart hopeful outcome

so after so many people giving me words of encouragement it only made me feel stronger of my decision. the pet shop called again to tell me to come in on thursday to switch out the puppy(ughhh) my husband and i have decided that we are going to have them give us another baby but they will never get my henry. he is going to be loved like no other. i am willing to give a lil more money to get the second pup ,at this point it would be over $3000. not that it matters. they are responsible to refund me the money for his echo. which was over $600. i pray that the manager of the store will do the right thing and give us the second pup and we will keep them both. i have to admit that i am very excited in the thought of two of thease lilttle babies. any thoughts to this? is this even a possibility? will the manager do the right thing? i pray so and ask for your prayers as well. fingers crossed!!! hopefully by thursday my home will be blessed with both babies.

For me:

I don't think I would want a second pup from them.  What is the guarantee that this one will be better off then the first?  They are all puppy mill dogs. =(

I would let your baby live out his life happy comfy and quiet with you.  In the meantime I would try to save some money and research and get to know some good breeders and get my next pup from a quality breeder.  Like someone had mentioned having another pup around could possibly put more stress on your little guys heart.  I would wait.  You are probably going to have some hefty bills through this too.  Let your pocket rest before adding another and use this as a learning experience about why not to buy from a pet store.

Just my honest opinion.

not at all..

i appreciate the honesty...i cant help but want to get them out of there! really do you feel it would be better for him to be alone? i thought having another would help. maybe i am thinking of my own heart. :( i just dont know what to do. i am soooooo angry that they would do that. i am so emotionally attached and so is my family. i guess i am in hopes that this pup will be healthy. i dont know.........

I'm sure

others will weigh in.  This is just my opinion.  Its always good to really think about everything before you make a decision.  I would ask the vet what he thinks about adding another pup with the first ones condition.  He will tell you if it will compromise his health or not.    That would a good first step. ;)

that's what I did...

I talked to my vet about bringing in another puppy while Sebastian was going through this. My vet said it should be okay, I just have to be REALLY, REALLY vigilant with him to make sure that he doesn't get overtired or exerted while playing. Playing with us is fine, but as you know, puppies will play a little rougher and may play longer. I am not planning on crating them together either, just to make sure that the other puppy doesn't  play while no one is watching. I plan on doing this as long as the other puppy is going through obedience classes and learns how we want him to behave around Sebastian. We haven't brought him home yet, but probably in the next couple of months. Hopefully the pet store manager will still let you keep Henry, but his/her hands may be tied by corporate policy and the only way to get another puppy will be surrendering Henry. My advice is go through a reputable breeder next time, they will make sure the puppy is healthy and if not be more willing to work with  you. My breeder was willing to split all of Sebastian's medical costs with me if I didn't want another puppy.

My opinion....

First of all I am so very sorry that you are having to go through this.  I hope the best for your puppy and that there are many happy years ahead of him.

I am not meaning this to sound harsh, I am just being honest.  Pet store puppies come from puppy mills.  When you purchase from a pet store it only promotes those mills to produce more puppies.  The mills do not care about health, do not care about the dogs, all they care about is getting money.  The dogs and puppies are kept outside in all weather conditions and live their lives in cages with hardly any human interaction.  The human interaction they  may receive is less than humane.  Therefore, I do not think you should get another puppy from the pet store because then the mills just produce more puppies.  I think you should fight to recover some of your costs but there is no guarantee they will pay you anything back.  Also, who knows what you would be getting with that second puppy, it could come with a myriad of the same health conditions.  I think you should love that puppy you got and now that you have learned about pet store puppies save up some money and go through a reputable breeder next time.  Again, I am so sorry that you are having to go through this but give that bleepin pet store heck!!!!!!!!

been thru something similar

I have researched all i can for a year, and even was in contact with the breeder. I saw the website and read the feedbacks and even contacted buyers who bought from the. so I waited and bought our first bully went to pick him up. All seems fine, we took him to the vet to do a health check and vet said ok. We didn't pay much attention but he stinks really bad. So as the months went buy about 5 months, we took him to the vet to do a urint test and found out he had ecoli. and did a ct scan and found out he has 4-5 pockets along the  ureters that was collecting urine so he couldn't empty completely, his right kidney was smaller and abnormal in shape then his left. To make the story short, we did 2 surgeries to try to sew up the pockets, but 2 of them were too close to his prostate that it was too risky to do a 3rd surger. He was put on all the antibiotics you could imagine, we even had to injectect him with Merropenem for 3 months and one month supply of this is close to $1k. We contacted the breeder since this is congenital and the breeder was still obligated to cover since this was covered in the contract until the puppy is 1 year old. The breeder wanted us to ship back the puppy and said that he will fix the problem and resell the puppy. We have already attached to the puppy and said that we have proof of the cost of the medications, surgeries and vet visits that total more than the cost of the puppy and we faxed this to the breeders vet since the breeder didn't believe us. We were able to get our money back less $800 since the breeder said we are keeping the puppy.

So as you can see, you should keep this puppy and get your money back and you will probably have to make a deal with the shop because legally, they can refund you the money  and get back the puppy or exchange another puppy but in your heart you know you will take better care for this puppy because the store will just resell him to another unlucky person. I would not take another puppy from this shop because he/she might have a different problem and in the long run it will cost alot of money, trust me, we have the most expensive bulldog and with all the medications, ours is on he is resistant to almost all of it and the ecoli bacteria  not only damages his kidneys it has already progressed to kidney disease, we don't know how long he will survive but we just try to make the best of it. He is only 3 years old and has been on medications since he's 6 months.

i am so sorry to hear that. i know what your heart feels like.... i also have proof as well. it was about 700. i am hoping to propose that he give me a new pup and let me keep henry, switching him of course is not a option so no matter what it wont happen. they are also suppose to give the cost of his echo and sonogram back to me. my hope is that they will allow me maybe give an additional 400 to keep both. i think its fair as both the vet and cardiologist said that he should have never been sold. my mentality is to get them both and take care of them. i know its the right thing and hopefully the mgr at the pet store will feel the same. he and i both know they will most likely put henry down.( i would die) and because they are scums of the F'in earth making more money is all they care about. i will leave with my two babies and never look back.  i am working on shutting the store down. i am from nyc and working with consumer affairs, the better business bureau and the aspca. i will pray for your baby when i pray for mines. thank you
