My 7 months old has bleeding gums

My 7 months old bulldog is having bleeding gums for 4 days now. It was enough bleeding to stain my bed sheet and for me to notice that her water had a pink color due to the blood that was in it.  She was also a less active than usual. I took her to my vet yesterday to have her checked out. My vet was quite worried and suspected a rat poisoning or some sort of blood disease and decided to keep her for the night and run few tests.  All tests results came out normal : bleeding time, prothrombine/tromboplastin, complete blood analysis..  Still waiting for the von willebrand factor disease results. The only thing they found was that she had white blood cells in her urine (symptomatic of a urinary tract infection she told me). She gave her clavaseptin antibiotic for 10 days in order to fix it but did not think that this bacterial infection was causing the bleeding gums..

I brought back my dog home today and all she does is sleeping.. not usual for her.. but she seems ok and the bleeding appears to had stop.

Ever experience the same with your bulldog? Please help...

Our boy Ollie had bleeding gums a few years ago...

I noticed it on the floor and his bed.  If I remember correctly, we took him in the the vet poked at his gums and they bleed a lot.  He put him on an antibiotic and it cleared up in a little over a week and never came back.

Is it possible that she was chewing on something

like a marrow bone? We had a Bulldog that would chew bones to the point of injuring his mouth.

Hi leng,All the tests they

Hi leng,

All the tests they ran came out normal for my dog, and the bleeding just stop by itself after few days (maybe a week ?). The vet call me yesterday to follow up on my dog and told me that she cannot explained what was the issue... I asked her if it could be teething. She told me that it would be quite suprinsing because my dog adult teeth were already out. (but she did not work with a lot of bulldog before, if any).

Personnaly, I think its a good thing to give your dog a wide spectra antibiotic in order to fix any microbial issue if it the cause of the bleeding (as I did), and also to give the antidote for rat poison, just in case.  That is what I would do if it would happen again to my dog...   Is your dog the same age as mine?

Hi Rose,Mine is about yours

Hi Rose,

Mine is about yours age around 11 months old yes the test result is normal and suprisingly after a few days of antibiotic it stops b itself.this is the first time i had this problem but will still monitor how it goes .
