my 2yr old bulldog

Hi I need some help or advice here guys...

I have a 2 year old male bulldog he is white. I will put a picute up of him on my profile. anyway hoping you can help he was a rescue dog and had a skin infection upon arrival i took him to the vets and paid out for some tablets and malaseb shampoo which i use on him fortnightly. however he seems like he sweats quite alot at night and in the morning his sheets have a really strong kind of 'urine' smell. I know for definite that he does not use the toilet in his bed. The vet said to continue using the wash and that he no longer had a yeast infeciton which was causing the problem... so I am not sure why this still happens and what I can do to treat it.. i have put him on doggie kibble only (Hills Science Plan).. I clean and dry his angel tear stains and folds everyday in case this might also cause the problem.. forgot to mention his been neutered aswell...

He does tend to get quite a few skin problems like the other week he had a reaction to some anti bacterial wash that my other dog uses (none bulldog) and he had a reaction to it.. I have been using malaseb for most of his skin conditions and it seems to be working well... but can you assit with the odour.. I know bulldogs tend to be quite smelly anyway esp as the sweat alot but im sure his smell is not natural odour...

I have two rescued bulldogs

and one is brindle with mostly white who also has skin issues, lots of yeast infections in his ears and we use the same shampoo from the vet.  I have switched his food to Natural Balane Fish and Sweet Potato with seems to help a lot with the skin and yeast.  Also, every morning when he would wake up his bedding was wet and stinky.  It was urine smelling but I did not see how it could be urine b/c it was all over the blanket.  Ended up that one night we stayed up and slept outside his crate and low and behold, he peed in his crate....it was urine the whole time.  It spread through the blanket and then he was laying in it and got smelly.  He was peeing in his crate on his blankets every night and I thought it was just sweat too.  Took away his blankets and he did not do it, but he barked all night until we gave him his bedding back....then he'd do it again in the middle of the night.  Anyway, now he sleeps with us in our bed and we have never had the problem again....I think he just was mad and wanted to be with us at night.  His odor has gone too!!  Just thought I would share our experience which sounds similar, however, you don't think it's urine, however, we did not think so either.  It took me several times to realize it was pee, I thought it was just sweat or slobber at first.  Good luck!

You definitely need to change foods...

Hills foods are not good in my opinion.  The Nat Bal fish is good, also Taste of the Wild pacific stream is salmon and sweet potato, that's what we use and we have no odors, no tear stains, great, thick coats and no itching.  Fish is usually a good protein source, one that's least likely to cause allergic reactions.  It's amazing what a good grain free food can do.

I totally agree with Kathy. A food change is needed....

And either of the foods she mentioned are very good. I would just do a hard switch, don't drag it out and delay it, just switch! It will take a week to 2 months to see the full effects of the food change, so hang in there. Also, make certain your bully doesn't have a UTI or similar, that can make them a lot more smelly just by itself. Grain free and a vet urine check are in order:-)

the UK

I just did a search online for pet food stores in the United Kingdom, where I think you may be from.

It appears that Natural Balance, which some of the people here have recommended to you, may not be available outside the United States. At least I saw a few questions posted on Yahoo! Answers that stated you may not be able to get Natural Balance in the UK.

I do see, however, that Orijen and Acana are two brands that do appear as available at "Pet Planet", which seems to be a UK online chain. Orijen seems to have been made "pet food of the year" in England. Though I don't recommend or advocate any particular commercial brand of dry food over another (since my own dog eats raw food, not kibble) if you are looking for a grain-free food to try, these may be similar and if your dog has a skin-related odor problem, a higher quality food may be worth trying.

For the record, I fed both of my rescue bullies Taste of the Wild (which I don't think you can get in other countries, either) and Nature's Variety kibble and both did very well on it.
