I have 4 day old pups that seem to be doing great. Gaining weight every day. All over a pound and a half. Trouble is mom thinks they need her attention every hour and a half or anytime they whimper. It was cute at first but in the middle of the night it is not. LOL Anyone ever have this happen before and how how they handled it? I try to ignore her but she barks so hard I am afraid she will pass out or it could affect her milk supply. I
I never had puppies
but your girl is just being a momma. first you have to think about her and keep her clam. you can't stop her in being a mommy they are just like us. sorry about what happing in the middle of the night. I don't think you are going to be able to stop her from worrying about her babies.

Is she not in there with them? Why is she barking? I've had several litters, many years ago, and Mom never seemed to stop grooming and caring for them. It's just instinct. I'm just curious about the barking... is she asking for your help?
I want... this one...no no that one.. no the other.. .oh heck !
I'll take them ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
they are sooo precious
Sorry I can't help with your questions, I've never been a daddy to a litter, hell never been a daddy to a human baby either ! I jumped right into Grandfatherhood when I got married :)

Koo-koo momma
It is all new to her (assuming it is her 1st litter) she will settle down in a few days. Many of my girls seem almost frantic to get to their pups in the 1st week. By the time the pups are 3-4 weeks old, mom will be not wanting to lay down for the full nursing time.
Crazy mom
I have to tube feed 2 of them because whenever she is put on mom she goes too aggresive at sucking and bubbles from the nose. Don't want to chance pneumonia. I put the others with her every 2 hours to eat and bond for a half hour - an hour. She can't be left with them because whenever she hear's a noise she jumps up and step's all over them. This is her second litter but is so much more wanting to be with them. I love her to death but getting up every hour or so is taking it's toll....lol Thanks for your responses's. I sure hope you are right about in a few weeks she won't care as much...

I have had many.......
litters over the last 14 years. With my new moms I will sit for as long as it takes for mommy to feel as if "ok everyone is full, clean, ect.I can take a break" even if it takes and hour or more. Had a litter that were only at day 55 when born and it was well over an hour for each feeding. Now I also take mom out of the room and have a raido going so that mom can't hear every little peep or cry. Good luck I hope everything works out.
