I just wanted to say thanks again everyone for being such a great resource and I wanted to share our progress.
Here's the backstory, skip ahead if you know it already! Milton had normal canine acne, must have scratched some open and got his face into something and got a staph infection. Now thanks to the infection and the weather after a series of injections (antibiotic/corticosteroid) that really helped, the swelling and puffiness [almost like oozing boils] came back 3 days after the injections so he is now on an oral steroid in addition to oral antibiotics, which should work together through the rest of our humid summer to help him heal and stay cleared up.
He's been on 200mg oral doxycycline (antibiotic) and 20mg prednisone (steroid/anti-inflammatory) for 3 days, then today he started on 200mg doxy and 10mg prednisone. His face is 100% cleared up, not pink, not swollen, no zits, no heads, no oozing, no scabs, nothing. He's feeling really good and obviously not bothered by his face at all. We are still washing with dermasoothe nightly and using babywipes on his noserope and his eye wrinkles. Everything seems A-ok here and he goes back to see the doctor for a followup in about an hour.
So at least for us for right now the magic combination is the steroid plus the antibiotic. Vet would like him off the steroid as soon as we can and the lowest dosage of it we can have him on, but it sure is doing the trick!

Good to hear some good news!
Amy and Sophia
So glad he's got some relief
when Onslow was on the pred it really messed up his little system. He had (sorry to be gross) explosive diarhea the first couple days but then he was ok I had to firm him up with sweet potato. He drank sooooooooooo much water and had to pee constantly I could NOT wait to get him off of it! But sometimes its the only thing that helps. Glad he's feeling better!
Great news!
Glad you found the right treatment to combat Milton's skin issues!
