since were all adults here....i have a question...wilson i have had since he was 12 weeks....i was showing him and he has several problems so i will not take the chance to neuter....i have 2 rescue girls both spayed...he has never been used for stud has never been around a female in heat....and he is now 5 years old.....last year he started to have erections and he does the deed start to finish...is not humping anyone...only happens once every 4 or 5 months so its not constant.....and its always in the am and when he just woke up.....

he does run the household he is the chief...he is not agressive to the others...i have three other males they are neutered....

do you think he does this to prove some thing? is it a hormone thing.....he is not dog agressive can be around other male dogs.....

i talked to my vet but he got red and shrugged his shoulders......but i found your articel intresting

I have heard breeders say that if you have a male that is intact and you never use him you should collect him every now and then as a kind of release. I don't know how true that is but it kindof makes sense to me.

Thinking in the sense of humans and their "need" to ejaculate....LOL! You know they always want a little....hahaha!

It's hormones, would be my guess. I'm sure it is satisfying. Lots of dogs even masturbate, which just about sends their owners off to therapy. LOL

please just no. i plan to leave james intact and if i have to "collect" or help him, uhmmm, release i will know my dog relationship has finally turned a corner.

i have heard this same exact thing about another adult male i know, though. he was nuetered at 4 years, but he had, uhmmmm, needs as well.

I've got Bulldogs for 30 years now (yak, I'm getting OLD!). All four dogs were male and unaltered. Never had to "collect" them, never had problems with them apart from some dogagression (but only after being attacked a few times - so I doubt that the balls had much to do with it).

Yes, off course when there females in heat around, they would have an occasional erection and some even had sometimes a ejection too. Piece of toiletpaper and in the dustbin. This could happen (in 30 years, 4 males) 5 - 10 times....

Maybe you should talk to your husband about this - I guess you'll take him to the vet for his neutering this week!!!

Don't worry, let them be boys.....
