My 8 year old male bulldog, Walter, was just today diagnosed with Lymphoma. We are so shocked by the diagnosis and wonder if anyone has had any experience with this.
We will be seeing an oncologist tomorrow to find out what kind of treatment is available.
It seems that the sickness came out of nowhere. Is that the case with Lymphoma?
I appreciate any kind of feed-back. We are so sad.....
Recently Michele with Hooch found out he has the same....
diagnosis. I hope she sees your post and shares her information. Michele is AWESOME when it comes to research for medical stuff and I am sure she has tons of information for you.
I am sorry you are going thru this.
Our boy had lymphoma...
Oscar was 5 when diagnosed, 6 when he passed. We felt the enlarged lymph nodes and they did a needle aspiration to confirm diagnosis. We went right to an oncologist and they put him on the Madison Wisconsin protocol which is 25 weeks of various chemo drugs. He went right into remission and came out on week 24. We did several rescue protocols after that, but eventually he was just to weak to go on and we had to end his suffering. Most dogs do not react badly to chemo. He had a few stomach upsets, but the oncologist had given us pills and injectibles for that. He had 7 quality months and 1 months not so good. Some dogs go a lot longer in remission, some never get it back. It is expensive, but I think our area (Phoenix) is one of the higher priced places in the country. There is a yahoo group called LymphomaHeartDogs that is specifically for dogs on chemo with lymphoma and they are very helpful and knowledgable. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%45%64%64%34%69%72%6f%6e%40%61%6f%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%45%64%64%34%69%72%6f%6e%40%61%6f%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')). Probably your boy is feeling pretty normal right now. Our vet told us that after a while, they start to feel like they have a bad case of the flu and then it progresses from there unless you do the chemo. Sending good thoughts for you boy.
