Looking thin on raw???

HI everyone!

I was wondering if it was normal for bullies to loose weight on raw. Bear has been on raw for about 3 months now. He used to weight 65# and the vet wanted him down in the 50's. He is now 55# but his skin looks loose and not tight like it used to. You can see his ribs. I feed him frozen green beans  and 3-4 chicken necks  in the morning and in the afternoon he gets 1-2 chicken breasts with raw carrots, garlic and diatomaceous earth as well as chicken heart and liver.  Should I feed him more at each meal?

if your losing weight

then add more food....i feed 1 1/2 to 2 lbs my boys are a little fat...their 53 and 59 lbs....raw does not have all that filler to make them fat....so what they eat they use....increase your meat...you have a big boy who needs more..once his system is use to raw...you will see him gain weight and then you can cut back again.....

If he's losing too much

feed him more meat. The veggies are just filling his stomach, they are not contributing much, so don't count them when you are figuring out the amount to feed each day. Chicken necks do not have hardley any meat on them at all, they are mainly bone.

If I feed more meat....

Will he get constipated? I just don't want him straining while trying to poop.

It's a matter of trial and error

until you get it right. Usually too much meat will cause loose stools.  Remember they only need 10% of their total amount of food to be bone. Yes at first more bone will help the transition, but if you've been feeding it long enough to notice a signifigant weight loss, he should be able to handle an increase of meat.It really didn't take a lot of adjusting to get it right with Audrey. She had the opposite problem, she was gaining too much so we had to cut her back.

increase your meat not bone

unless your stools get loose dont add more bone add more meat....every dog is different...some times my dogs eat 2 lbs a day then the next they might eat less...i do add a little  bacon grease in the winter...gives them a little fat for the cold....so increase your meat....are you giving tripe  and  organs in your diet....

Yes organs...

chicken liver and chicken hearts
