Limping - Kennel Rest

My 2 year old Hank injured his leg last Thursday (1 week ago) and it was unclear how it happened.  At first he was not bearing any weight.  The vet instructed us last saturday to put him on strict Kennel rest (only out to eat and bathroom) and it has been UNBEARABLE!  He barks and cries and hates to be in there and I Feel so terrible but I know it is what's best.  My question is has anyone ever gone through kennel rest?  Did it work?  He is supposed to be on for another whole week (2 total) and so far he has NOT shown much improvement.   He will occasionally bear weight with a huge limp still, and other times he completely lifts it and hops. Idk if I can last a whole other week!!  The next step will be the lateral suture surgery if he does not improve.  Has anyone ever had this done to their bulldog?  Any tips on kennel rest?

Thanks,
Sarah

Recovery from surgery

will be a minimum of 8 weeks (depending on the surgical method) so stick with the 2 weeks.  I honestly think your vet is being very optimistic with only 2 weeks.  2 weeks is likely the amount of time he needs for any swelling to go down so he can manipulate the knee to determine if it is a ligament rupture.  If it is a partial tear and you opt not to do surgery  then you should expect another 4 weeks at a minimum of down time, with leash only walks for potty. He can run, jump, climb stairs, etc as this will only cause more injury.

Scrowl down and you will find another post about CCL (Cranial Cruciate Ligament) Surgery and by doing a search you will find lots of past post about this subject.

Yep, we avoided CCL surgery with crate rest

crate rest is great for a partial tear or sprain...I have been there, as hard as it is its worth it.  I rested Onslow for  6-8 weeks and it worked.  If they can't run/walk they need to chew.  I gave onslow marrow bones, stuffed kongs and bully sticks to help get him thru it.  (don't give anything unattended)
