I will say that Kofi has had some reddish brown tears since beginning raw.
When she was on Wellness, she had absolutely no stains whatever.
After starting raw, she had yeasty nose rope for a week or two, and staining around the eyes.
She still has some staining, but absolutely no odor or soreness. I just clean every other day or so. When you all discuss tear stains, I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to. I have no problem with this issue since, for us, it is a minor issue compared to all the other great results.
....and another
It was hard for me to get the right angle, but hope you will be able to see her stains.
She's still my little "beauty queen" :)
She is a lovely girl...
I would say those are quite minor tear stains. Once in a while Sophie gets them....and they aren't nearly that nice!
Hugs to you girls....I hope and pray all is well there:-)

Hey girl, thanks
for the kind words!
Hugs to you and ALL your four leggers!
Pretty as a princess
That looks great to me!!!!
Wish I'd never see any
at all, that's just a problem our bullies are gonna have sometimes. They are SO worth the trouble!
She looks great!
Audrey has MAJOR tear stains-she always has except for when on Angel's Eyes. :-(
you can see how far down the stain goes- and you can see the gunky nose rope.

Well, she's still a beautiful girl!
I do think that there is something in Kofi's diet that has brought this staining on, but like Audrey, she has no odor or irritation.
May be something in the increased protein?
I wish I knew!
It makes me crazy!
I just ordered some bragg's apple cider vinegar, it is the only thing we haven't tried yet. And no more chicken for a bit.
She will get worse in the spring, so I know it's partly seasonal allergies. Her nose runs in the spring also, which makes her nose rope gunkier. She has this one wrinkle that channels her nose drips sideways right into her rope.
Her inner eye seems to be the biggest problem to me. It is not something the vet feels like would need surgery, and I woudl not do that anyways just to stop the stains. But the way her eye is shaped and the wrinkles right around her eye seem to be the reason it waters. The stains are from the moisture.
this eye does not water as much
but this one always does, especially when she plays.

It looks to me like she has some mild entropian
It appears that her lids are rolling in toward the eye. This would definitely cause excess tearing.
that's what the vet said too, it was rolling in
but I don't remember him using the word entropian. My vet is one that thinks that surgery should only be done if the dog's quality of life is suffering and the surgery will dramatically improve it.
Do you think there is any reason for me to try to do something about it? I am not worried about the stains, the skin is not red or inflamed it is only the hair, and if we take her ball away for a few days it dries up a lot. I don't want her to be uncomfortable though.
Is there anything else I can be doing for her to make it water less? Sometimes in that really deep crease right in the corner of the white eye there will be a stuck hair, so I have been more ferquently checking it. She REALLY hates having me mess around with it. I use some eye drops I got at the petstore to flush it when I find a hair and it gets very irritated from me trying to get it out.
I figured that after eliminating nearly everything from her diet and she still had watery eyes it must be her eyes and not her diet. So if I can't make her eye water less without taking her ball away, is there anything I can do to lessen the staining?
Thanks for your help!
Cathy and Audrey
I would probably have it checked by an Opthamologist
Just in case any of the lashes are rubbing against the eyes. Entropian can be very uncomfortable and can cause trauma to the eye.
I will agree with Jacinda
in it appears to me that she has mild entropian on her right upper lid. To me her left eye and the right lower lid look good. Ester's eyes are a little watery as well but she has NO entropian or distichia, just excessive tear production.
If Audrey where mine I would NOT do any surgery and try to manage the issue, unless you see a definite change (ie squinting, rubbing her eye, etc) that would suggest she is having pain or it has become bothersome to her. Of course if any scratch or ulcer started to form then surgery is a probability. It is very likely as she ages that it will get worse, we all sag more as we age, right? :) Well maybe not the skinny chicks, LOL!
oh, and thanks!
i think she's beautiful still ;-)
