ok so henry has had a cold since day one and bubba as well. first they were on cephalexin and now they are on clavomox. its going on a couple of weeks and the are still sick. when we saw the vet last sunday he checked and no signs of Pnuemonia. but im sooooooo worried. henry and bubba both woke up with so much boogers it was crazy. when i called yesterday he told me that because they are coughing up the phlem and the mucus is leaking out. the infection is most likely going away and they are just releasing all the crap that was in the chest. i dont know??? any thoughts guys.
You want them
to cough the stuff up....just like a human, if it stays in the lungs then pneumonia sets in. I don't have alot of experience with kennel cough but here is some info I got doing some research.
The disease can last initially from 10-20 days and can rebreak when the dog is put into a stressful situation which puts stress on the dog's immune system. Diagnosis is made by seeing these symptoms; having a history of exposure is also helpful but not always found, as kennel cough is easily spread through contact with contaminated surfaces such as the ground, toys, and sidewalks.
Important to keep the puppies away from other dogs, probably well past 16 weeks and final shots. Do not give them the rabies shot until they are past 6 months. If you don't have them on supplements to boost their immune system I would suggest you do this. Solid Gold SeaMeal, Nupro, Pet Tabs, Missing link are a few out there. I have used Seameal and Missing Link
Once they are healthy you want to start socializing them with puppy classes, obedience 101 classes, etc.
whewwww....
thanks deb, ive been so worried. yes im definitly looking into classes. im going to get he supplements today. can i get at a regular pet supply shop?
Those supplements
should all be readily available at a local pet store. Petsmart and Petco may not carry SeaMeal or Nupro but they more then likely having Missing link and Pet Tabs.
Seameal
Solid Gold Seameal can be found at Petco in the back by the Solid Gold dry kibble. They sell it here at our Petcos. If you are making a slurry with the seameal please make sure your kibble doesn't have citric acid as an ingredient. This also go for any time you are adding moisture to kibble.

*side note
Chumlee had Seameal to grow his coat back after he blew it out. He couldn't do the Grizzly Salmon Oil because he would have spit ups or throw it up completely no matter how little I gave him it was "just too rich."

Nice ... I liked the Sea Meal

EVCO
You could also try Nutivia Extra Virgin Coconut Oil that is what Chumlee gets now he is super soft and smells great. We do 1/2 tbsp MWF

what a difference!
I use the unscented fish oil. My old dogs would not even CONSIDER eating food with grizzly salmon oil on it, so I started getting the unscented and they ate it fine.
Since *I* don't care to smell it, I stuck with it for Audrey.
I have dried kelp I got for my old gal, I haven't used it in a long time for Audrey, but this just made me think of it. :-)
Since it's shedding time, it does seem to help with the process.
