Hoping for some insight...Norman, 10 mos. old, was just neutered on Monday. Seems everything went well but noticed yesterday that he was urinating much more than normal routine. Today I come home from work to find two accidents in the house. He has been house trained and not had an accident in months and months. Really unusual for him. Could this have anything to do procedure or be side effect of meds?? He's taking Doxycycline and Temaril. He's also drinking a lot more frequently and panting more. Should I be worried? Could something have gone wrong? Any feedback is greatly appreciated as I can't call vet until tomorrow. Thank you!
if he was given IV fluids
as part of the surgery, that could be the accidents as his body has excess fluids to rid itself of.
The doxycycline is an antibiotic and the other is a pain med (I think), neither one should cause him to drink more than normal or urinate more.
Maybe he just feels rough and couldn't help himself? Hope all is back to normal soon.
TemarilP has prednisone in it...
usually a small amount, but pred can make them pee and drink a lot. I would suspect that as the cause, although the surgery could cause a little incontinence, I remember Chester having an accident after coming home from neutering.
thanks, and a question
didn't know the Temeril had pred in it - that could be why he is having problems.
Is there enough pred in it that a dog needs to be weaned off it like you normally do with pred?
My boy did the same thing
After Mr. Higgins last surgery he peed in the car on the way home, peed as soon as we got in, I took him out to pee, then he peed as soon as we got in. I was positive it was the i.v. fluids. He was back to normal the next day.
Hopefully that is the cause in your case too.
Yes Temaril P
makes them Pee - alot! Good luck.
Thanks
...for your thoughts. Hoping it's nothing more than that!
No, they don't need weaning off of TemarilP...
it's a very small amount of pred.
Temeril P DOES make them pee
When Sally was taking Temeril P (2 x day) she soaked her bedding at night, to the point where it was unsavable. It also causes them to drink more often.
Sally was taking Temeril P a second time (1 x day) and had no pee problems. She actually took it daily for several months as it helped with her foamy phlegm issues. Eventually it stopped helping as much, so I took her off of it.
