Joy, tapeworms. Suggestions for fleatreating the yard?

Nevermind that we have not seen one tick or flea AT ALL this season -- Milton has a tapeworm. I just saw the segments on his poop so we're taking him in for a dose of medicine at 3pm to get rid of it. And now Mr. Mama has to find something to treat our yard with since clearly there's fleas out there, even though we haven't seen any on Milton, Boomer, or the cat.
Any ideas on the fleatreating? Frontline is now going to go onto both dogs starting today -- I hate to treat them with chemicals like that unless I actually see the offending buggies, but since the only way they can get tapeworms is from ingesting fleas that were carrying the eggs, clearly there's fleas out there. And now I get to start watching Boomer's poops too. Joy.

thats not the only way
do you have rabbits in your yard....dogs love rabbit poop....also use lyme in your yard that kills fleas and ticks and will keep any bunnies out.....careful with frontline its not the safest stuff in the world
well, we don't have rabbits
We live kind of in a suburban area with a fenced-in back yard so it's just us. :)
Yeah, I know re Frontline, that's why I don't use it unless I see an actual need for it. I've used it on Boomer before but only in years i've caught him with a flea or tick. I'll use it til I know or hope we have whatever fleas are outside under control. boo.

they can get tapeworms from rodents or lizards also
In addition to rabbits. Fleas are not the only way.

The vet confirmed it's the kind from fleas and gave him a pill, all better. Am still considering getting him a cot and a food bowl at the vet's office so I don't have to drive him there every third day :P
