Jean Donaldson?-Lynn hope you see this!

I am looking for books on dog aggression/fear/reactivity and dog body language and behavior. Jean Donaldson's book is one I have found and I am wondering if anyone (Lynn??) has any opinions on her ideas/philosophy?

Her book I am interested in is "Culture Clash"

Does anyone have any other favorites for dealing with dog challenges?

Audrey is absolutely the most challenging dog I have ever had behavior and training wise (she is definitley NOT a lab!) and I am always looking for new information.

First, let me start by saying

First, let me start by saying that I am by no means an expert! I haven't read the book you reference, so I can't say anything about that one.

I have, however, read "How to Speak Dog", by Stanley Coren, and I found it to be a really good resource for helping me to understand dog body language. He goes into great detail about different ear and tail positions, different stances, different kinds of barks and growls, etcetera. It doesn't specifically address aggression issues, but it may help you to read what she's saying.

Thanks Veronica!

This is exactly the kind of book I am looking for!

I found it harder to read Audrey's facial expressions, maybe because all of my life I had long snouted dogs and a bulldog is SO different!

Thanks for the recommendation!

Great book

I went to a Jean Donaldson week end seminar. Her books are very informative.

My favorite writer is Patricia B. McConnell PhD. I've been to a couple of her seminars, beyond talented when it comes to dogs and presentation to owners. Her books are the favorites amongst dog trainers/behavior consultants. She has a real life approach to understanding dogs and their relationship in the human world. Strongly recommend anything written by her.

Aggression issues, James O'Heare has a couple of books that are pretty good.

Anything dog related can be found at dogwise.com, lots of books and videos.

I read "The Other End of the Leash", by McConnell, and really loved it. :) I may have to check out some of her other books, based on this recommendation!

Thanks Lynn!

I will look for the Patricia McConnel books also.

Audrey I suppose will ALWAYS be a challenge. It is doubly difficult because we have the baby in the house. She has growled at him a few times and once she head butted him, she literally PUSHED him out of her perceived space.

It is tiresome sometimes to have to be a nag on my family to be so DILLIGENT, but the consequences of Audrey losing it on the baby are so terrible to even THINK about, I just have no choice.
