Itchy Bulldog, rub burn...

I am so upset right now. I woke up this morning to find Burger with this crazy burn from rubbing the side of his head on the carpet. Ever since the TOTW recall (of which he nearly didnt make it due to salmonella from a bad batch here in Illinois), his skin has been going insane. He was on TOTW pacific stream but after he got sick he was switched to Orijen 6 Fish.

What do I do??? I'm scared to give him a bath or anything because it looks so painful and I cant take to see him in pain.

If he were my dog I would take him to the Vet.

Hot Spot

It looks like a hot spot to me. I would agree a vet visit is in order for this one becasue it is huge. Hot Spots tend to get big fast from what I understand and they come on quickly. Thankfully I have never had to deal with them. I would also be switching food. What is the protein level of the Orjen Fish? It may be just to rich for him. My sister used to have a Springer that couldn't eat lamb, got horrible hot spots on lamb.

A friend recommends Vetricyn for hot spots. I've used it for other things like staph and it is great. You can find it at a feed supply store. It's xpensive...but good stuff to have on hand.

....it is large, but probably you can't get to vet until Monday, and I wouldn't take this to emergency clinic....so I'd clean it with listerine or peroxide and let it dry, then sprinkle gold bond powder on it. Good luck!~

Turns out what I thought was a burn from him rubbing against the carpet ended up being a nasty hot spot. I gave him a good bath and cleaned him up nicely. As I washed his face the crumbly scabbish stuff came off, it hardly left a bald spot. Once dried you'd never know anything was there the day before. No more Orijen either, it's WAY too rich for him. We have a few samples of Earthborn Holistic "costal catch", grain free, fish based and he likes it.
