do any of you have a dog with an inverted tail? i would like to hear about your experiences with it such as vets recommending amputation, homeopathic/natural treatments that worked, didn't, or any any associated information.
when I first adopted Matilda I didn't know she'd had - or have - any kind of problems with her tail. I cleaned with a baby wipe (hypoallergenic) but that was never enough. I finally found out who her original vet was and learned that she'd had a number of bouts with infection.
After trial and error
This is what worked for us...
Every two to three days clean the pocket out with sensitive pampers wipes slowly
Paper towel dry slowly
Aveeno baby diaper rash ointment slowly
Chumlee now enjoys his butt scratching time and he has a horrible twisted inverted tail that is very tight
Tail amputation is just plain scary from all the stuff I've read.....

works for me
One of my girls has an inveted tail for a year now. I put vasaline on a baby wipe and wipe till clean. No need to dry. Lately I have been putting a very small amout of anti itch cream on a wipe and that also works. Never ever an infected tail. Good luck. The vasaline and anti itch cream are good because no need to dry. Just a smal amount.
rex has pockets
that have to be cleaned. I learned the hard way. poor thing got an infection at about 6 months old and we had to treat it with baby wipes, antibacterial cream and desitin. Thankfully my finger is small enough that I can get in there and clean out the hair. After that bout with the infection, I clean his button tail pockets every week. I wipe with a baby wipe and dry with a paper towel. In his weekly baths I do use his dog shampoo in there and then rinse and dry with a soft thin towel. He never had a problem after that first time. No vet ever mentioned amputation to me. hope this helps. :-)
