Looking to see if anybody has any good imput for me with my 5 year Bullie named Rocky. I just recently took him in to the vet, he had a lump develop between his two toes. We have already tested to see if it was a tumor but cam back fine showing it wasnt. Rocky is currently on anitbotics which really havent helped much with going down and also have been soaking his feet 1 a day in espom salt. After futher reading on the internet I have read that Bulldogs are common to have these lumps between their toes. I am planning to visit vet next week to show her the info that I have found on interdigital cysts. I was curious if anybody has had experiance with these lumps and what treatment has worked best for them. It doesnt seem like it bugs Rocky much other than licking it. I can tell you that the vet made incesion on the lump just to see it will better. The vet also mentioned some type of treat that last for about 8 weeks of antibotic that we could do, she thought it was something to do with the hair between his toes. Any suggestions would mean alot. Thanks again Larry
IDC's
Many Bulldogs get these intermittently and they respond to Preparation H or Epsom Salt or Bleach soaks within a few days. Over 3-1/2 years, my boy Buster had been plagued with one huge chronic IDC plus others that came and went. We tried 3 vets and every holistic and home remedy plus combinations of antibiotics and creams, holistic foods and even a raw diet for 5 months without relief. The Bulldog vet believes his issues are caused by ingrown hairs, too. The chronic one that at times looked like a huge strawberry on his foot was drained once and opened twice and I watched the Vet cleaning out hairs....he's been left with scar tissue there now, but it still intermittently flares up. Giving large dose of Cephalexin (2-500 twice a day) wtih ketaconzole (as prescribed by vet at my suggestion) was what finally got it under control. Then I was told by the vet to wash his feet twice a week with soft scrub with bleach--yes the dish/pan cleaner!! I continue doing that. i also use a cream called Fluocinonide .5% cream that is a prescription that I apply when I see redness between the toes and it also seems to help (I also use it for another who gets small intermittent IDC's).
I hope your dog's IDC's are not as persistent. Good luck!
Thank you for the info. Would
Thank you for the info. Would you recommend the espom salt and preparation H before trying the antibiotics, listed below. Is it all right to use both at the same time. Thanks Larry
Yes...
I definitely would recommend trying Epsom Salts soaks or Preparation H first, and hopefully they will work and you won't even need to go back to the vet--or even try the soft scrub with bleach washes. I have read of people on the forum recommending using both the epsom salts and preparation H, but I was told they might cancel each other out as Epsom Salts are used to draw it out, while Preparation H is used to shrink. I would try everything before going to the vet and getting involved with antibiotics. My Buster's case was chronic and not common at all---just wanted to tell you all the methods we tried to control it. Good luck to you.
Thanks again. I have been
Thanks again. I have been using the espom salt for about 1 week looks better not as red, but still there. Should I use the espom salt and then after I dry his foot put preparation h on the lump or do one at a time. Thanks Larry
Try....
both ways and see what results you get. It's up to you. How is he? If he's otherwise fine--it's not affecting his gait or appetite--I'd experiment a little. Since you do actually see some improvement, I kind of think whatever you do now it will continue to improve. In the future try to stay on top of it and start the Prep H as soon as you see it getting red there and see if that halts the progression. I understand how you feel. Good luck!
Good morningĀ I was going to
Good morning
I was going to tell you we have been doing the espom salt ging on about 2 weeks and the antibotics for about two, I forget the of them but its about 375mg twice a day. His last one is today. It seems better the swelling is down but the bump is still there not going away totally. I have been putting the Prepartaion H about a week in a half also. Do you think I should keep trying this for a couple of more weeks. When I went to the vet last friday she said to keep doing what I am doing and come back in 2 weeks. She recommened another antibotic that last for 8 weeks twice a day but didnt get the name of it. The vet said it might have something to do with the hair folicle. Any other ideas or should I give it some time on this treatment. Thanks Larry
I just got the name of the
I just got the name of the antibotic it is Clavamox 375mg twice a day
What worked for me
Hi there,
We had the same exact issue with our puppy and the thing that COMPLETELY stopped all occurrences of interdigital cysts was giving him a grain-free diet! No kibble. I tried the epsom, the soaks, the medications everything and the cure for us was 100% diet related. It is my opinion that bull dogs are very allergic to grains. That is why they get so many ear, tail, hot spots, itchy paws and IDC etc. As soon as I stopped grains, it was like I had a new dog. We haven't been to the vet since! This is just my experience and good luck to you!
