Tuffy's been licking at one foot and I took a look and there is some red inflamation between some toes. I'm assuming it's interdigital cysts. He hasn't had this in a while. Can someone refresh my memory for treatment? I wiped it down with a maleket wipe and then put some bag balm in there to soothe it. Does that sound about right?
Thanks!
We always used preparation H...
they usually go away in a few days. Some people soak in epsom salts or a bleach solution, but I could never get my guys to be still that long. Whichever method you use, don't use prep H AND soak. Use one or the other.
Thanks, Kathy!
I'll try that. There's no way Tuffy would sit still for a soak. So it's safe if he licks PH off? Or do I need to put socks on the paw?
Our guys haven't licked it...
it doesn't taste very good. If he does though, a sock is a good idea.
i usually just clean it and then put neosporin spray...
kibby hasn't had one in a while too, and then all of the sudden its back.... i use antiseptic wash (like for human wounds- but nonstingy one), warm wash cloth, clean it , rinse it, then dry it, then neo spray because it seems to dry faster and get in the crevices, top and bottom. it seems to work pretty well. her cysts usually get super bright red on day one, then they keep growing, then pop, then clear puss, then swelling gradually goes down... all of this over a period of 7 days. i wonder what caused it this time, since she hasn't had it in a while. ? . good luck! i love tuffy, he is looks so soft and sweet. :)

last thing..
i usually put the spray on right before we sit outside for a while or when i know she is going to lie down and fall asleep soon, this way it dries up pretty quick... because kibby is paw licker too. she has licked it a couple of times but i think since its such a small (or since its dry by the time she tries to lick ) amount, it hasn't affected her yet... :) (knocking on wood!!)
