Dear all,
kibby had a new idc come up today on the bottom of her pinkie toe pad? it was very strange.. i did notice her licking her feet for the past couple of days, but didnt notice anything unusual because she always does this after a meal, and when i tell her to stop she does. so this morning, she walked with a limp, on her front leg, and we thought she jumped off the bed too fast - we got a new bed, happens to be 6 inches higher then before- we thought the ladies could still handle this with the stairs - unfortunately , it took them a couple of days of landing hard and clumsy before they realized it was at a different height! then we noticed her pad was swollen, not bright red, no puss , no ooze - just pink and fatter on the side (i'll post pic tmrw). we checked it and nothing was cut , lodged in there, or dirty.. skin was not broken, still tough pad meat. she didn't pull back if we touched or anything, but she had a lot of trouble walking on it, so we carried her to poo and pee for our morning walks. its so sad to see your bully limping :(
i gave her an aspirin with lunch and by late afternoon, she was walking on it again and acting fine.. it was still a little swollen but now it has moved to the usual, in between the toe-idc area. she did seem to want to snuggle with me more then usual this morning, i thought she was just cold, but maybe she was in pain or something because it was like she couldn't sleep ( and of course, that is strange for any bully, right?) .
has anyone had this before? is idc on the bottom of foot common? does it usually start there and work its way up and maybe i just never noticed?
we did play hard at the park the day before, maybe she stepped on something? i also let her take a big bite of a boston market roast chicken (we were celebrating gabby's 13th bday!) allergic reaction? should i give claritin just in case? can you give claritin at same time as aspirin?
i wish these dogs could talk... maybe its time for me to get allergy testing so i stop wondering.. but my vet tells me results are never 100% accurate with foods because food given in combinations can still cause reactions... but i am sure it will help right?
sincerely, christine
Our first bulldog Rocky used to get these.
He also got IDC's on the top side between toes. These were a bit different.
We wouldn't notice anything till he started limping a bit. If we checked the bottom pads it would sometimes look like a big blood blister. After a day or so would either go down on it's own or break open and ooze (yucky). If it did break open he would seem to feel better almost immediately. He got them once or twice a year the last few years.

usually kibby has the normal in between toe ones too...
but for some reason, this one was on the bottom and made her limp... so strange.. thanks :)

My girl will lick her foot until it bleeds
She licks the pad and it gets red and swollen. I've tried putting a sock on her foot but she won't leave it on. So, now I spray her foot with some stuff I bought at petsmart specifically made to stop them from licking.
can foot licking be a sign of nervousness?
Do they ALWAYS lick their feet because it's itchy/sore? Or could it be a nervous habit, like people chewing their fingernails?
Audrey has been licking her feet like CRAZY lately, and we have had some really nerve wracking baby screaming days this past week. She has spent more time in her crate, which she ONLY goes to now when she gets nervous or stressed, or when she knows she's going to get washed or sprayed. I have wanted to crawl in the crate with her a few times, it's so unsettling to have a baby scream like that, so I KNOW she's upset by it if I am.
I thought she was licking because she was itchy, she ate something that made her face itch, so I thought her feet were itchy too. But now I wonder.....

Absolutely
With my guys, I find that if Q is licking the bottom of his feet (between the pads), he's probably itchy. Kano has given herself lick granulomas on the top of her feet and ankles from stress.
