Yesterday, I went to the supermarket and bought 1 pound bone-in chicken. I cut it up with the shears into pieces. I thought Bear would turn his nose at it, but he loved it! I usually have him "sit & shake paw" before he eats (he is very well trained). He didn't even want to sit first. He just wanted to gobble it up! I didn't give him any kibble just raw chicken with bones.
What do you guys mean when you say 80% meat, 10% organ, and 10% bone? How do I measure out the percentages?
And what is the organ part?
I fed him about 1 cup chicken pieces. I also gave him carrots, fish oil, yogurt, and his glucosimine pills.
He pooped last night after he ate it and it came out normal.
This morning, I did give him 1/2 c kibble with 1/2 c eaw chicken just because I have about 1/2 bag kibble left and am trying to finish it.
stay with what your doing.....
kibble is hard to digest than raw...so maybe feed the birds with the rest of kibble and just go raw......that is a little high in bone content you might want to add a bit more meat...i give one bone in chicken in the am then all meat at night...
now if you start to feed to much bone his poop will come out white...this means its traveling slow in the digestive tract...increase his meat only portion ok...just keep things very very simple....
so if your feeding two lb of meat 10% of that should be bone and 10% should be organ.....
your doing good slow and steady.....
each meal...
I don't feed raw but have given my girl a few raw meals. My friends feed raw and they told me if you are going to feed raw, then not to feed kibble at that meal b/c the kibble and raw are digested at different rates. If you want to use the kibble, do one meal kibble a day and one meal raw but don't feed the two at the same meal.

I guess I need to buy a weight scale to figure this out...
I also need to feed him organ so do I get him liver? I don't quite understand the organ part.
YAY!
That's awesome! I use a scale, but I am starting to get the idea now of what amounts to feed so I probably won't be using it forever.
I do feed chicken livers to Audrey, and the chicken hearts/gizzards packs, but some say those are muscle meat and some they they are organs.
Keep us informed of how it goes!
And I'll add my .02 and say that no you shouldn't feed kibble and raw at the same meal. I gave away my leftover kibble when I switched to raw.

I am trying it too! Last
night, mixed raw chicken breast, carrots, garlic clove, greek yogurt and carrots.
I did mix it with her kibble, though. I guess tonight I'll try just the raw.
It's a learning process for sure! Haven't tried the bone yet....too scared
don't be scared!
and don't mix raw and kibble at the same meal.
So what did Kofi think?
