Do you have a smaller pet food/goods store near you? I have a local holistic pet food/shop/grooming place near me that has a really informed and educated staff that have helped me with a few issues Winston has had in the past. I just wonder if some place like that is near you b/c I'm sure they could help you find "nummy" treats that won't upset the trial diet and/or allergies.

We're used to giving him a treat when we leave, but we can't. Also, he's a master at acting like he's taking a pill and then spitting it out. We need to find a way to give him the pill with food, but the vet says we can't use anything but the food he's on.

I'm going to call them tomorrow to see if that means the hypoallergenic pill pocket kind. He's really miserable when we try to force the pill down, but I guess I would be too. Per the vet, chicken is one of the major causes of food allergies. We were on a grain free chicken food, but no luck.

...Potato and Duck (PD), or Rabbit (PR), or Venison (PV) or Whitefish (PW). There also is a Hydrolyzed Protein (HP) which is Soy and, I believe is a common allergen in Bulldogs (search past postings). The hypoallergenic food also comes in canned...perhaps you could get some cans of the variety you are feeding and make little meatballs with the pills. Make two, one containing the pill, the other empty. Start to give the one with the pill allowing him to see the empty one in your other hand--hopefully he scarfs down the pill quickly to get at the other meatball. Good luck!

My swimming bully buddy!
No chicken at all.

Does he eat ice cubes?

Or another idea
you could wet his dog food and shape it into a little pill ball.
Good idea. Will try.

What exactly is he allowed to have on this trial? nm

Royal Canin Hypoallergenic. Note from vet says no pill pockets.

Thanks. We tried potato with good luck.
I think the soft food will also be good.
Discussed with the dermatologist and she ok'd the potato.
hopefully he won't figure out there's a pill hiding in it.
