Hello our bulldog has had problems with his eyes for the past year. He is 3 years old and for the first 2 years his eyes were good and did not tear all that bad. They did a little here and there, we always had to at least wipe his eyes and folds. But I thought this was normal. Because his eyes were always open and seemed good.
The past year hes had more tearing and wanting to scratch his eyes more, we thought this was just allergies, as bulldogs have allergies alot, so with allergies the eye will tear and close. So our bulldog scratched his eye from the tearing and when we were at the vets he said that he might have Entropion eyelids.
So its tuff to tell because his eyes are closed and look like there turned in and could be rubbing on his eye, but that might just be because of allergy problems.
Im so lost right now =[ So is there a way to tell if he has Entropion eyelids ?? Will any vet for sure be able to tell just by looking ? I just dont want to pay for the surgey and that not be the problem
Thanks for any help
Buford is 3 and just had his eyes fixed. Before surgery his
right eye wetness kept getting worse and worse. Left eye just some. He was starting to squint and rub his eye on everything. After surgery. He looks awesome- wetness is gone, no more rubbing or acting like it bothers him. He is SO much happier. His eyes were suttle. One vet said to wait, another one (more bulldog experienced) said to go ahead and fix them. Best thing I have done for him.
cost?
Our Nola also has this problem and we've seen a few vets about it. Quotes for the surgery were coming in around $3,000. Is that about right for the surgery?
Thanks!
oops, didn't see the other posts below....good surgeon in chicago
Does anyone have any suggestions for good bully surgeons in the Chicago-land area? Everyone we find is so expensive!
Thanks!!
My bulldog vet did both eyes for $250.00 He is the only vet
that I know that has reasonable pricing. Yea!!! He just can never retire....
My 1 yr old Sally has had eye issues since we got her...
She's had 2 surgeries for entropion, cherry eye (both eyes) and distacia. She doesn't rub her eyes nearly as much as she used to, but she still has excessive tearing. She eats TOTW so I don't think that is causing the tearing. I believe she will always have eye issues, but she seems comfortable so I'm not messing with them for now. It seems to me that a really good vet should know whether your baby has entropion or not. Don't give up! Deanne

We just made an appointment
We just made an appointment for Beatrix to have entropian surgery. Her eyes -- especially the left -- were always tearing, and we were constantly drying the folds out and cleaning them daily. She never rubbed at them or seemed to be bothered by them, but we asked the vet to look at them when she was in for a vaccination last week. Our vet just looked, and immediately knew she had entropian, and was able to show us -- she pulled gently down on the skin below her lower eyelid so that it rolled back out and showed us that was where it was SUPPOSED to be, and then let go so we could see it roll right back in towards the eyeball. The surgery at our vet is only $300, she said it's a very simple surgery and inexpensive (as far as these things go).
