How long does freshly collected sperm stay viable?

A breeder 2 hours away from me wants to charge me $150 to A.I. my girl with his dogs sperm but, My vet only charges $53 to do a transcervical insemination. So, I was wondering, if the freshly collected sperm would remain viable if I took the collection to my vet 2 to 3 hours after collection without chilling? If I can save a 100 bucks that would be great. Just to clarify, the insemination is on top of the stud fee. Thanks

this question is better asked on

the show forum...they do alot of breeding and can give you some ideas...other wise call a vet that deals with that and maybe they'll say you can ice pack it for several hrs...but the show people will know much more....
