We took her to a vet about a week ago and he said it wasn't common for her to still have a discharge then (2 weeks post) but that some dogs do. Well now a week has passed and she is still having a redish goey discharge. It's very mucusy and hangs from her on mucusy strings... sometimes there's more and it leaves littly nasty goey puddles on the floor and sometimes it's almost non-existant but there is no sign of letting up. Shouldn't she be done with this by now?
Common
and it can last several weeks. So 2 weeks is not uncommon at all. It seemed like forever with Ester, even after we weined the puppies at 5 weeks, she couldn't sleep with me for a few weeks. As long as there isn't any discharge with a greenish color and fowl smell she should be fine.
I was told
it can last 5-10 weeks. And it's very normal, as long as nothing stinks like an infection or there is any pus. Of course more pups longer it lasts apparently. And c sectioned dogs actually stop sooner than those that give natural birth apparently too I was told.
All depends...
When Olivia had her c-section my vet flushed her out very well and there was very little discharge.
I don't think you need to worry as long as she's acting normally and the discharge isn't green or smelling bad.
Sue
Thanks everyone. Must be normal then.
It doesn't have a strange smell. Just seemed like it shouldn't still be coming out of her. The color has changed a little, maybe a little reddish brown opposed to straight red... I figured it's due to old blood or whatever. But I figured since the vet that saw her last (going to change vet offices I think) said it should end soon... and a week later it was still going strong, I just thought maybe it was out of the ordinary. Wish I could get some sort of diaper thing to stay on her. Her lack of tail makes it difficult. I've tried several types and they all fall off. :(
they have special
panties you can use for the dogs at pantsfordogs.com but I spent $45 on a pair and my girls wont wear them, they have them on for ten minutes and then rip them off and chew on them! go figure. UGH.
Doggie Panties
are actually not a good thing to use anyway. You don't want to trap the discharge next to her it can cause an infection. I've stopped trying to make them wear panties...we don't have carpet. We just spend a lot of time with the wet jet wiping up the floor.
