Dozer gets head tremors on occasion and we usually drizzle some Karo or Maple syrup all over his food bowl and by the time he's done licking it the tremors usually subside. Why is this? We've taken him to the vet and he's not diabetic or anything so why would licking the syrup help stop his tremors? This last bout was pretty severe but ended within 10 minutes of me giving him the syrup.
Lack of blood sugar levels is what I've been told
Your dog (or you) doesn't need to be diabetic to have an episode of low blood sugar. When Ollie had head tremors I read karo syrup or frozen yogurt would help because the head tremor happened because of low blood sugar. ?? Just like your case, it seemed to work for Ollie too so long as his head tremor was the ones where he still could walk or keep eye contact with me...I chalked it up to lack of sleep because he was sicker than we thought & wasn't sleeping much.
Not sure if this helps answer your question, but thought I'd tell you that same thing worked for us too.

Head Tremors...
I use a piece of food to get Zimmer to "focus". Sometimes within minutes his head shakes will start again, sometimes not. I will email you lots of info.

Dozer started having them in April of this year..
He has had 5-6 episodes since then, he hasn't had surgery since his neuter in Dec 2008. The syrup works great and the tremors dont seem to bother him at all. he still comes when called, plays, eats,etc...I just wondered what the exact connection was. thanks guys.
I sent you email.
I can't remember if I had sent that info before...hope it helps!
