Hi, Gemma is now 5 months old. How much play is too much? She has had a couple slips on the wood floors in our house, she let out a loud yelps like she was in serious pain! We felt horrible but it was just that she was running so fast and slipped. Is this normal for a bulldog?? She seems to recover in a few minutes and then is fine. Never having had a bulldog before I wonder if she will get stronger with things like this or if it will be like this forever. I've told my kids to be gentle and not to let her on the furniture for fear that she may hurt herself getting off.
Thanks!
Hi there.
You are smart to keep the pup from jumping off anything high like a bed or furniture. Easy for them to tear ligaments that way.
If it was my pup and I saw her slipping alot in the same spot I might consider buying some runners with grips for that area. Or even making a safe area like a den or basement for running around. I would be more concerned with her breathing and panting, if you see her gums turn white or her tongue start turning a shade of purple its time for a break. Hope this helps a little. =)
Puppies love to run and jump so you have to keep an eye on them
so that they don't hurt themselves. Buford would fly from the couch to the ottoman in a nanosecond. He even jumped a few times straight up on my glass coffee table. Scared me to death. Thankfully they grow out of it. When his playing around got him too wound up and breathing heavy he would get a time out in the kennel. They do not know their limit so it is up to us to monitor. Enjoy puppyhood- they grow up so fast. I agree with onslows mom that you need an area that keeps the slipping to a minimum.
Thanks!
Thanks to both of you. I think I knew the answer but I just wanted to confirm! I will keep an eye on the gums, I didn't know that
