Hi everyone,
1) Any tips on how I can prevent my 8 year old bully from scratching a hot spot area behind his neck. The area looks like the first pic in the link provided http://www.bulldogsworld.com/health-and-medical/hot-spots . The hotspot was almost dried up when yesterday night, he scratched it really bad and started bleeding a little (looks like second pic in the link provided)
2) We shaved him and cleaned the area with hydrogen peroxide. Is a cream necessary?
I think if he does not scratch the area again, he should be ok. He had a few hot spots in the past and the first time, we went to the vet where the vet prescribed a cream. For the hot spots after, we just applied hydrogen peroxide. This time, he seems to scratch it more but he looks more relaxed now that we just shaved him and cleaned with peroxide. Any tips on how to minimize scratching is appreciated.
Thanks
A cream isn't necessary.
You can try using Listerine original gold. Clean the hot spot well, then dab a little of the Listerine on it. I have heard it will clear up hot spots in a hurry!

you want it to dry up. Listerine is often recommended but I would think it could sting like crazy. I've never had a hot spot...but have a friend that swears by Vetricyn. I've used Vetricyn on other skin issues and it's good stuff. Worth having at home in your doggie medicine cabinet.
Listerine....
...in spite of its strong taste does not sting!! I've used it on hot spots and when dry applied gold bond powder with good results. Haven't heard of the Vericyn before but will look into it.
